Like most middle school classrooms, mine is full of energy and movement. Students this age also appreciate autonomy, flexibility, and being offered a variety of choices. \r\n\r\nUpon entering my classes, it's fairly easy to pinpoint the overactive pre-teens; however, lots of quiet, well-behaved students are wrestling with anxiety, stress, and pressure to perform. Although I try to constantly read the room, those students in particular are masters at disguising distress. I wanted to provide outlets for both.\r\n\r\nWhen I first introduced the handheld fidgets, floor cushions, chair bands, and the wobble stool to my classes, they enthusiastically begged to try them all. I had to get creative in order to allow fair distribution to all who wanted to experience the flexible seating and fidgets. It has taken a couple months, but they're finally able to better self-regulate and decide for themselves what they need to help stay focused in class. We co-created norms for using all our new tools to ensure the purpose remained to support focus and attention. We cannot thank you enough :)","fullyFundedDate":1758842049030,"projectUrl":"project/comfort-zones-supporting-readers-with-o/9607129/","projectTitle":"Comfort Zones: Supporting Readers with Optional Seating","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Briggs","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3108947"},{"teacherId":7906354,"projectId":9565128,"letterContent":"I am writing to express our sincere gratitude for your incredibly generous donations of UNO cards, crafts, games, and puzzles. Your thoughtfulness and support have made a meaningful difference in our school community, and we are truly thankful for your kindness.\r\n\r\nBecause of your contributions, our students now have access to a wider variety of engaging and enriching activities. The UNO cards have quickly become a favorite, encouraging friendly competition, critical thinking, and social interaction among students. It is wonderful to see students gathering together, laughing, strategizing, and building connections through something as simple and fun as a card game.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the games and puzzles you provided have created opportunities for both collaboration and independent thinking. Whether students are working together to solve a puzzle or engaging in a group game, they are developing teamwork, communication, and perseverance.
