One of the highlights for me was teaching Ghost. We tackled the book right after state testing and it was truly the perfect way to end the year. The book focuses on a 7th grader who is facing some really tough situations at home but finds an outlet in a local track team. The topics were heavy but I had full confidence that my students could handle them and they did extraordinarily well. We started the unit by going outside and racing in the 100 meter dash (the main character's signature event). By the end of the unit my students were able to do a completely student run socratic seminar discussion where they brought up topics such as gun regulations and mental health support. \r\n\r\nAt the end of the year when my students talked about their favorite books that we read, many of them mentioned Ghost. I never would have been able to teach this novel without your support. Having a class novel that is relatable, challenging, and engaging is so critical for getting my students to see the power of books. You are a part of that!
