Because of you, my kindergarten students now have a wide variety of high-quality supplies that are transforming our learning environment and helping students do their best work every day.\r\n\r\nThese materials are being used every single day in meaningful ways. Students now use the new dry-erase markers during small groups and centers to practice writing letters, sight words, and numbers. Having these tools at their fingertips allows them to quickly try again, fix mistakes, and take pride in their learning.\r\n\r\nThe glue sticks have been a huge hit. Students love the independence of being able to grab one and get right to work. They use them for art projects, phonics journals, math journals, and reading comprehension stories—projects that help them build creativity and a deeper understanding. \r\n\r\nOur new marker caddy, filled with bright Crayola markers, has also been a game changer. Students use them to complete their daily worksheets, and it has made even routine work more engaging and colorful. Instead of just completing a page, they now take pride in doing their best, most detailed work.\r\n\r\nEverything is kept organized in the new zip pouches, which have truly supported our kindergarteners' growing independence. They are learning how to take responsibility for their materials, keep supplies in the right place, and access what they need without waiting for help.\r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting our class and believing in our students. Your contribution made a meaningful and lasting difference for our students, far beyond simply providing materials.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, students had the opportunity to work with clay, many for the very first time. They learned hands-on artistic techniques, built foundational clay skills, and explored the creative process with excitement and confidence. These experiences not only strengthened their artistic abilities but also encouraged problem-solving, collaboration, and personal expression.\r\n\r\nYour donation also made it possible to integrate the clay projects with other core subjects, enriching lessons in history, science, literacy, and math through meaningful arts connections. Students were engaged, curious, and eager to create—often inspiring one another across grade levels. This kind of vertical learning helps build continuity, shared knowledge, and creativity throughout our entire school community.\r\n\r\nThe joy, pride, and imagination your support sparked in our art class was unmistakable. Because of your generosity, our students now have access to a fully stocked science station complete with real specimens and a functioning microscope. From the moment the materials arrived, the excitement was off the charts. The students couldn't believe they had a real microscope just like the scientists we've learned about. \r\n\r\nThe best part is seeing how this new station encourages independent exploration. Students rotate through the science center during free choice time, and it has quickly become one of the most popular spots in our classroom. They're not just observing—they're making connections. Just this week, a student who had studied a pine needle in the science center proudly pointed one out during recess, excited to share what he'd learned.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, our class will continue exploring life science topics like habitats, seasons, and animal adaptations. The science station has given us a hands-on, engaging way to deepen those conversations. Students are not only learning—they're investigating, questioning, and developing a true love for discovery.\r\n\r\nThank you again for giving our youngest learners the chance to feel like real scientists. Thanks to generous donations, that dream became a reality.\r\n\r\nTo enhance learning this year, I had first graders learn about the importance of the koi fish in the Japanese culture. Koi fish represent strength & perseverance and are incorporated in their Children's Day celebrations so their children can emulate the same qualities. We then reviewed warm and cool colors so the first graders could design their koi fish kites. Second grade students, having already done the project last year with warm and cool colors, wanted to elevate their experience by building on what they already knew. We reviewed the significance of the koi fish while studying how real koi fish look. Students then took that knowledge to design their own realistic colored koi fish kites. \r\n\r\nOnce again, I was able to hang the kites in the school windows. The excitement is electric, both students and adults love the color and creativity they add to the halls of our school. These arts integrative lessons are a wonderful learning experience while developing art skills. I very much appreciate the donations that made this project possible again. I am hoping we can do it again next year.","fullyFundedDate":1722892235441,"projectUrl":"project/somethings-fishy-in-art/8440322/","projectTitle":"Somethings Fishy in Art","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hibbert","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9130242_orig.jpg?crop=1711,1712,x0,y159&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690846524600","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9130242"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_33424","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":618,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":16,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":92,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":87.5,"schoolId":33424,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Plain City Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Plain City Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/utah/weber-school-district/plain-city-elementary-school/33424"}
