My students have really enjoyed having these resources available. We use them as a way for students to take a short break from their classwork when they're feeling overwhelmed or need a moment to reset. It's been especially helpful during long assignments or tough days—students will spend a few minutes coloring or playing a short board game, and then come back to their work more focused and ready to go.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were really excited. They were curious about all the new items and quickly started trying them out. It didn't take long for certain supplies—like the coloring books and board games—to become class favorites. Right now, we're continuing to work on building focus and self-awareness through small daily habits like taking meaningful breaks, managing time, and communicating clearly. These supplies have added a simple but really effective way to support those skills in our daily routine.","fullyFundedDate":1730571450419,"projectUrl":"project/mindfulness-for-juniors-and-seniors/8913425/","projectTitle":"Mindfulness for Juniors and Seniors","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dent","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8279596_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1642616850244","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-dent"},{"teacherId":9817913,"projectId":8908992,"letterContent":"The puzzle board, fidgets and coloring supplies have become a key tool for students to take mental health and self-care breaks in directed studies classes. I encourage students to self-regulate their motivation and stress using activities like puzzles, coloring, and the calming corner either before initiating or to reward their hard work. Our school has developed an excellent policy so that students never use personal electronics at school. Some students need to relearn how to interact without device devices. Board games give students a structure to interact in a fun low stakes way.\r\n\r\nWhenever I have free time in my class, even just for five minutes students love to go to the back corner of my classroom and pick out a game to play. I love how the students are self directed and find the game that interests them most. Many students have learned new games and have taught them to other students.\r\n\r\nI am really proud of our school for being free of electronic personal devices. And thanks to this money from donors. Choose our students now have great opportunities to play and interact in a healthy way. Thank you so much for giving my students these opportunities. Many of them are there during lunch and see it as a safe space to hang out with friends outside of class. In addition, I have had students use it in class for independent work time, and on a couple occasions have had students there to take a moment to chill and compose themselves before rejoining the class. \r\nStudents have also made good use of the quiet fidget toys. As a teacher, it is so nice to be able to offer that tool to students who otherwise engage in louder or more distracting alternatives. Students also are getting practice in keeping our resources nice as they are self directed in maintaining the fidget basket. \r\nSomething else I love about the calm corner is the posters. While we will do breathing exercises occasionally in class, I also see students looking at posters of other techniques. Exposure to that idea that their mental health matters and the tools to help regulate has helped my students. \r\nThis has been part of a greater effort in my classroom this year to integrate more SEL lessons for the 9th grade students. They've learned about regulating emotion, lessons in empathy, and finding flow for themselves to create a better work environment, to name a few. This space has helped show, with action, that school climate matters.","fullyFundedDate":1730153259476,"projectUrl":"project/enhancing-student-well-being-through-cal/8905705/","projectTitle":"Enhancing Student Well Being Through Calming Spaces","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Eiting","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9726300_orig.jpg?crop=2237,2237,x302,y574&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725357452909","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9726300"},{"teacherId":1560659,"projectId":8915031,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of puzzles and a puzzle board for my classroom. They were extremely excited about a board designated for puzzling, stating that now they wouldn't have to worry about their work falling apart over time. \r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding aspects of the puzzles is the sense of community they contribute to. Whenever a student has a free moment during class or between classes, they come into the room to contribute to solving the classroom puzzle. What I have found interesting is that it is consistently my students who receive special education services who ask to use them.
