Hispanic students need more opportunities to read books in their native/heritage language. It is especially important for Spanish speaking students to read in Spanish so they become biliterate as well as bilingual. This project will bring a variety of books in Spanish from children's books to beginner readers to young adult literature. Students will have the opportunity to borrow books or read in the classroom. I also encourage my high school students to borrow children's books to take home and read to their younger brothers/sisters/cousins. This is a great chance to older siblings to be positive role models and help younger children maintain their heritage language. After much learning loss, during the COVID-19 pandemic, our students need as many learning opportunities as possible. My little Spanish library will give them a variety of books to choose from so they can continue to develop their literacy skills.
