My students are high school Reading Intervention and AP Language students with active imaginations and a desire to read and learn more about their world. These students, with their intellect and thirst for knowledge, really are the hope for a better future. My school is a diverse high school educating the youth of Salt Lake City with an amazing and dedicated staff, full of a zest and zeal for the craft of teaching students. These kids are remarkable, demonstrating their awareness of not only where they fit in the world, but their responsibility in improving societal inequalities through the avenue of education. Most of my students struggle to read, mainly because they have endured a life time of struggling with reading and dealt with many social inequities that lead to below-proficient reading. I firmly believe that with the right book, students will be able to craft their reader identities.
