My students eagerly gather around these materials each morning, using them to practice identifying, counting, and writing numbers. For many of them, this is the first time they've had access to high quality, tactile learning resources-and the impact is clear . I've watched hesitant learners become confident as they place numbers in order, trace numerals on magnetic boards, and proudly recognize letters they once struggled with. \r\nBecause of your support, they are developing the confidence and readiness they need for a strong start in kindergarten and tons. \r\nThank you for believing in my students and investing in their future. Your funding has made it possible for me to provide delicious and healthy snacks for my students, which they eagerly enjoy before diving into their coding activities.\r\n\r\nThe impact of these snacks goes beyond mere nourishment. For my students, who often have long days filled with various academic challenges, snack time has become a cherished ritual. It's a moment when they can momentarily step away from their screens, recharge, and gather their thoughts. I have noticed that when they have something tasty to munch on, their energy levels rise, and they are better able to focus on the exciting world of robotics and coding.\r\n\r\nThe joy on their faces when they see the snack table is truly heartwarming. Whether it's apple sauce packets, chewy granola bars, or Takis, each snack brings a wave of excitement. The students chat animatedly about their favorite treats, exchanging opinions on which snacks are the best. This camaraderie fosters not only friendships but also a sense of community within the program, as they bond over shared tastes and preferences.\r\n\r\nDuring snack time, I often hear laughter and animated discussions about their coding projects. It's a wonderful sight to see them unwind after a long day of learning, sharing ideas, and collaborating with one another. This time allows them to connect on a personal level, which is just as important as the coding skills they are developing. As their teacher, I cherish these moments because they allow me to engage with my students in a more relaxed setting, helping to cultivate meaningful relationships that extend beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nI submitted the DonorsChoose request over Winter Break, and your prompt response to fund it was the greatest Christmas gift I could have hoped for! I work at a Title 1 school - many of my students might have limited access to additional technology and educational resources. Through generous donations, I can support my students' passion for technology. I started an afterschool coding and robotics club (completely free for my students to attend) in October. All of the materials for my coding club have been purchased through donations! I am incredibly grateful and humbled by the willingness of donors to support my students. Coding and robotics are essential for future employment opportunities for many Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics careers. By starting students in early elementary school, they will develop a life-long passion for coding and robotics; helping them have prosperous and successful futures. \r\nThe technology purchased are Micro:Bits- tiny computer circuit boards that connect via USB or bluetooth to coding websites. Students program the Micro:Bits to display colors and sounds. They will eventually learn how to code the Micro:Bits to control cardboard creations! The possibilities are really endless with this technology! My students loved the music feature and the ability to code the circuit board from the computer. Even my youngest kindergarten students were successful with the basic block code for the Micro:Bits! It was so exciting to watch all students be actively engaged and interested in programming another type of computer system (a circuit board). I am looking forward to showing students additional opportunities they can use with the Micro:Bits. So many other robots are powered through Micro:Bits so this is an essential foundation for students to develop! \r\nThank you again for your help and support. Friday Table Toppers is motivating to them in many ways I did not even anticipate! First, it has really helped with Friday attendance. The kids don't want to miss collecting their team pom-pom points and shopping for tiny treasures for their pencil box habitats. \r\n\r\nThe pom-poms have also given me an avenue to celebrate individual students. Awarding pom-poms is a great reminder to find the positive more consistently, without feeling like bribing children to be nice. \r\n\r\nSome other surprising things to come from Friday Table Toppers is that students are responsible to keep their pom-poms safe as they are collected through the week. If one gets thrown away with a lunch tray, that is a lesson learned. The kids are also making connections between science and Table Toppers, looking for essential items to add to an animals' habitat. We have even been exposed to coin names and values prior to our math program teaching them. Money and value has a very real-life meaning, now. And, finally, the students get to PLAY, just play for fifteen minutes every Friday with a variety of students. Their imaginations run wild. The other day, a group of students had animals attending a Taylor Swift concert! \r\n\r\nThe best thing to come from this new way to celebrate behavior is we haven't had any problems with things getting lost or stolen. This has really delighted (and surprised) me. Our class was really struggling with vandalizing others' things or taking things that did not belong to them. We had a big discussion before beginning Table Toppers about this. We came to an agreement that at the end of the school year, the students will get to choose item from their Table Topper pencil box to keep and take home. Therefore, I will get most items returned to use with next year's group of students. And, I most CERTAINLY will be continuing this fun teaching practice.","fullyFundedDate":1734896931742,"projectUrl":"project/helping-big-feelings-for-little-ones-who/8928721/","projectTitle":"Helping Big Feelings for Little Ones Who Love Little Things","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ekins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp232439_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1472940630018","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ekins"},{"teacherId":6781288,"projectId":8907865,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the generous donation to my Classroom Essentials fund. It was the BEST surprise to receive the email that my classroom essentials wish list was funded! I am constantly figuring out ways to ensure my students have the best learning experience in my classroom. The donation you provided allows me to do this! \r\nI was able to buy much needed disinfecting wipes, Puffs Plus lotion tissues, colored paper for sending notes home with students, and white paper for printing activities. I usually purchase all the classroom cleaning supplies personally to ensure my students have a safe and healthy learning environment. This can get very expensive, so having any contributions to support buying cleaning supplies is very much appreciated. Kindergarten students almost always need tissues to blow their little noses. The tissues that I purchase from the school district warehouse are thin and scratchy- making it very uncomfortable for my students. Therefore, I typically provide more comfortable and higher quality tissues for my students. In kindergarten, I teach my students basic hygiene skills like blowing their noses and using sanitizer when they are done. Having your generous donation made it so I could purchase a large quantity of high-quality tissues for my students. It is very important that my students have a safe and healthy learning environment. I am very grateful for your generosity to ensure I can provide this for my students. \r\nThe school I work at does not provide or supply any copy paper for teachers. Therefore, I have to use my limited school budget to ensure I have paper for my students to have learning activities. Having access to paper is a basic school expectation- something that can get very expensive. Thank you much for your support so I could purchase white printer paper and some AstroBrights colored paper for my students. I use the AstroBrights paper to send important information home (many of my students have unreliable internet access, so I have to print and send home every note). The beautiful paper makes notes stand out and helps students remember to share them with their families! In addition, I can use the paper for different learning activities.
