Moments like that remind me how basic needs and emotional well-being go hand in hand.\r\n\r\nWhen the snacks first arrived, students' faces lit up. They were surprised that people outside our school cared enough to donate food just for them. One group of students helped unpack the boxes and carefully organize everything into bins granola bars, fruit snacks, and crackers ready to go. In fact, the students went through nearly half of the pencils within the first few weeks of school. Having such an abundant supply has allowed every student to have what they need without hesitation. Technology plays an important role in our curriculum, and with frequent use, headphones can easily break or wear down. Because of you, our classroom resources have longevity, flexibility, and a sense of professionalism that the students truly notice.\r\n\r\nThe organizational bins have brought structure to our shelves, our centers, and our routines. We are reading a novel about the Civil Rights Movement and one assignment is to create a visual of themes, ideas, events. The magazines have been invaluable for students who may not have the best English to display their understanding in ways that aren't dependent on writing.\r\n\r\nWe truly appreciate your generosity. I also can provide some alternative work for students who are ahead, struggling, or reluctant to do whatever assignment we are doing in class.
