These chairs have been a game changer for my students and myself. Most of the time we get to use them during small groups where we do a review/reteach of a topic. Students are learning new concepts or reviewing skills that feel challenging. The gentle movement allows students to get their physical energy out while still staying focused, calm, and engaged in their learning. They have also become a fun and motivating incentive for whole group activities as well. Students love earning the opportunity to use a wobbly chair at their desk, which has positively impacted both classroom behavior and overall morale.\r\nWhen my students first saw the chairs, their excitement was immediate. Their faces lit up, and they couldn't wait to try them out. Once I was able to review the rules of how we use and interact with our new chairs, they were used immediately. What surprised me most was not only how I watched as their focus improved, but also their body language changed. While doing a small math group, I saw students wiggling, smiling, and leaning in toward me. As if I could see the calm overtake them, they could take in all the new information. Initially, there was some skepticism regarding the effectiveness of the new materials we were using, but you should have seen their excitement when I unveiled the glowing room! \r\n\r\nEach grade level produced a distinctive piece for our Día de los Muertos exhibit. Among the creations were alebrijes (spirit animals), 3D birds, oversized calaveras (sugar skulls), Tim Burton-inspired portraits, paper ring skeletons, posable yoga skeletons, and animal masks. Every wall was transformed into a vibrant, glowing display.\r\n\r\nI carefully selected various glow-in-the-dark mediums for each project to ensure a cohesive approach rather than allowing an unrestricted use of supplies. The students particularly enjoyed working with glow-in-the-dark streamers to add texture, and glow-in-the-dark yarn to depict motion in their skeletons.
