The vibration plate and pea pod now have permanent spots in our sensory break room and are used multiple times a day. All of the students like to take their breaks in the pea pod, but for the students who really need that good proprioceptive input that it provides, they instantly calm down and start to regulate when they lie in it. The vibration plate is used with fewer students as we preselect the ones who really need it. The handful of students who need that input have benefitted greatly from using the vibration plate. There are students who are always up and on the move who have been able to sit down at their desk and complete work after using it! The students enjoy the input it provides while helping them return to the classroom well regulated and ready to learn! \r\nThe spinning chair and chewy tools have also helped provide needed sensory input to the students in my Autism classrooms and have helped keep classroom materials and shared objects out of mouths and provided an appropriate place to get vestibular input. Giving these tools lets the students know that their needs are valid and important and help teach them to find appropriate ways to meet those needs while also participating in the classroom. We are all so grateful for the opportunity to use these tools everyday with the students who really need them. Your donation has made such a big impact on helping my students regulate their sensory systems in order to participate in the classroom. Each day, I watch our students light up as they build, design, ask questions, and discover how the world works—with their hands, their hearts, and their imaginations.\r\nMany of these bright young minds come from diverse backgrounds and face unique challenges outside these four walls. Our STEAM space is more than a classroom; it's a safe haven—a place where they can take risks, think like scientists and engineers, and express themselves through art and innovation. Here, their ideas matter, their voices are heard, and their incredible potential shines.\r\nThe Challenge: More Than Just Supplies\r\nWe knew our students needed more than just textbooks; they needed tools that would transform abstract concepts into tangible reality. We needed to empower them to not just learn about the world, but to change it. Thanks to the generosity of your supporter, we received funding for a suite of hands-on building kits and tech tools that became the catalysts for transformation.\r\nHands-On: The Journey of the \"Bridge Builders\"\r\nThe true magic began when we introduced a complex engineering challenge: design and build a bridge strong enough to hold a weighted load using only the provided materials. This was their first real test of team-building skills.\r\nInitial ideas were a flurry of individual efforts and competing designs. Students from different backgrounds, who might not usually interact, were suddenly forced to communicate, negotiate, and collaborate. They hit snags—bridges crumbled, designs failed. But in that safe space, failure was just the first step to discovery.\r\nI watched them pivot. They began to listen to each other, merging a quiet student's idea about truss design with an energetic leader's organizational skills. The individual voices melted into a unified team strategy. They learned to rely on each other's strengths and support one another through frustration.\r\n\r\nHearts In: The Impact and the Foundation\r\nThe result was more than a sturdy bridge; it was a breakthrough in collaboration. This project wasn't just about structural integrity; it was about building a strong foundation of trust, resilience, and teamwork.\r\nThe change in the classroom is palpable. Students now approach new challenges with shared enthusiasm. They naturally form teams, delegate tasks, and communicate with a confidence I hadn't seen before. They have discovered that their collective effort is infinitely more powerful than their individual attempts.\r\nThis project, made possible by your support, has already shaped future engineers, artists, and innovators. It's about empowering every student to believe they can create, explore, and make a difference in their world.\r\nThank you for being part of our STEAM story. Your donation didn't just provide supplies; it fueled curiosity, built confidence, and, most importantly, helped us build a community of young thinkers ready to change the world.","fullyFundedDate":1755740908335,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-hearts-in-our-steam-story/9606119/","projectTitle":"Hands-On, Hearts in: Our STEAM story","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Goodfellow","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10050155_orig.jpg?crop=3000,3000,x0,y160&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755295557283","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10050155"},{"teacherId":5896768,"projectId":8488715,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support!
