Your thoughtful contribution has brought so much joy to our students and has made an incredible impact on their learning experiences. These toys and games are not only fun but also play an essential role in fostering the development of their communication skills. Thanks to your kindness, our children now have more engaging tools to help them practice important speech and language milestones in a fun and interactive way.\r\n\r\nThe resources you have provided will greatly enhance our therapy sessions, creating an environment where students can thrive and feel excited about learning. Your donation supports their growth in ways that words alone cannot express. It is truly amazing to see how much progress the children have made with the additional learning materials. Each toy or game serves as an opportunity for them to develop essential skills while building confidence and social connections with their peers.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness. Your support means the world to us, and it will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the lives of our students. We are so grateful for your partnership in helping us provide these wonderful opportunities for our children. I understand we live at a time where a lot of us don't have additional funds so for you to spend those towards my project is a big deal, so thank you. My students and I appreciate you so much! \r\n\r\nThe impact of the donated books can only be described as magic! One of the books donated was The Only and Only Ivan. So I did a novel study with my group of 4th graders, all who have learning disabilities with reading, and it was incredible! As a group we laughed, cried (me more than them) and saw the world through Ivan's perspective. My students fell in love with a book!! Which is amazing because if you asked many of them before this book if they liked reading they would tell you no. They also started to progress in their reading, 5 of the 6 showed growth on their middle of the year reading test! Now reading is something that is still hard but they are loving and we are starting our second novel. \r\n\r\nI again can't thank you enough for your donation. This one story is just the tip of the iceberg, my 5th graders are also reading novels from this donation and that magic is there too. Your donation has helped these incredible kids see that reading, even when it's hard is enjoyable. You've allowed these students to experience Camp Green Lake and learn that they can make a difference in the world.","fullyFundedDate":1727476686831,"projectUrl":"project/opening-the-world-of-reading-to-sped-stu/8480938/","projectTitle":"Opening the World of Reading to Sped Students!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Besler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9582837_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y185&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720023572630","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9582837"},{"teacherId":7677098,"projectId":8675633,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for giving my students the opportunity to experience some amazing novels. At this point, we have started reading Freak the Mighty, and the kids are really enjoying it so far. They are making connections to their own lives, and are loving the differences in two main characters' dialogue because they both have such unique ways of speaking. This novel has been so good for expanding their vocabulary. One character in the book, Kevin, has a very extensive (and a little strange) way with words, and it has been fun to have the book teach my students about these new words using Kevin's voice.\r\n \r\nAlong with making connections and learning vocabulary, my students are answering comprehension questions every few chapters. This gives them a chance to reread and make sure that they understand the plot, as well as dive deeply into the character motivations and choices. This novel, as well as the next one we will be reading, have a bit of an edge that most of my students haven't experienced in this form before, which makes a difference. Some students are finding out that they may like reading after all. \r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much for your contributions. These books will continue to impact my students now, and many other students in the future.","fullyFundedDate":1726364064993,"projectUrl":"project/novel-ideas/8675633/","projectTitle":"Novel Ideas","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pankow","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7677098"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_33164","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":435,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":55,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":48,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":38,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.8,"schoolId":33164,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Whittier Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Whittier Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/utah/granite-school-district/whittier-elementary-school/33164"}
