Excellent reading skills are the foundational support for students at school. It is essential that every child has the opportunity to read engaging and exciting books, especially after school when they get home. Unfortunately, there isn't any other funding available to me through the district to purchase books for students to take home. These books will be a gift to my students to take home and read with their parents/guardians. We encourage all students to read 20 minutes per day after school, five days per week. I chose fiction and non-fiction books to engage students in exciting facts about our world. The outcome of this project is to improve student reading skills. As a reading specialist, I know how important it is for students to pick up a book that they're excited to read. I will encourage my students to take the books home and read them out loud with an adult. I will provide an information sheet to parents/guardians on how to read-aloud with their child.
