The \"You Choose\" adventure books have been especially powerful for some of our most reluctant and critical readers, helping them engage with texts in ways we haven't seen before.\r\n\r\nThese books naturally build important reading skills. As students move through the story, they must make choices, think about cause and effect, and track how their decisions impact the outcome. They are practicing comprehension, problem-solving, and critical thinking without even realizing it. They reread sections to try different paths, compare outcomes, and discuss which choices were \"better\" and why—deepening their understanding of text structure and meaning.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now looks different. Instead of students avoiding books, many are leaning in, flipping back and forth, talking with peers, and even debating their decisions. The format removes the pressure of having to finish a long, linear story and instead allows students to experience success in a single sitting. This is especially important for students who struggle with stamina or confidence.\r\n\r\nWe have seen some of our most hesitant readers become the most engaged. Students who typically shut down during reading time are now eager to participate because they feel in control and invested. Even our more critical readers—those who often say books are \"boring\"—are drawn in by the challenge and unpredictability. They want to \"beat\" the book, find all the endings, and prove they can make the best choices.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, reading is no longer something students avoid—it's something they choose. Your support has helped turn reading into an active, exciting experience where all students, especially those who need it most, can feel successful.","fullyFundedDate":1769192725117,"projectUrl":"project/adventure-awaits-choose-your-own-storie/10047903/","projectTitle":"Adventure Awaits: Choose-Your-Own Stories for Reluctant Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3596492_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1464205080017","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3596492"},{"teacherId":3596492,"projectId":10016008,"letterContent":"Thank you for making something truly meaningful possible for our students and community. Because of your generosity, we have been able to begin creating murals that reflect who we are—our landscapes, our culture, and the pride we feel in our rural and remote community.\r\n\r\nThese murals are more than just artwork on a wall. They are a daily reminder to our students that they belong here. By involving local staff and students in the design and creation process, this project has become a shared experience that builds connection, ownership, and inclusion. Students who may not always feel successful in traditional academic settings have found a place to contribute, create, and feel proud of their work.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been immediate. Students stop in the hallways to look, point out details, and talk about what the images represent. They recognize their community in the artwork, and that recognition matters. It sends a powerful message that their experiences, backgrounds, and identities are valued in our school. This aligns with what we know about inclusive practices—when students feel a sense of belonging, they are more engaged and more successful in their learning .\r\n\r\nBecause of you, our school is becoming a place where every student can see themselves reflected, feel connected, and take pride in their environment. We are excited to continue expanding this work, involving even more students, and using these spaces as inspiration for future projects that blend creativity, culture, and learning.\r\n\r\nWe are deeply grateful for your support in helping us build not just murals, but a stronger, more inclusive school.","fullyFundedDate":1768765079793,"projectUrl":"project/murals-that-build-tiger-pride-and-belong/10016008/","projectTitle":"Murals That Build Tiger Pride and Belonging","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3596492_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1464205080017","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3596492"},{"teacherId":3596492,"projectId":10001095,"letterContent":"This project has made a huge impact on our students by giving them access to books and activities that truly meet their interests and needs. Students are using the new \"You Choose Your Own Adventure\" books, high-interest/low-level texts, and outdoor-themed books during independent reading, small groups, and in our launch room. One of the most powerful moments has been watching students who typically struggle with reading finish an entire book in one sitting. The interactive nature of the adventure books keeps them engaged, builds confidence, and helps them feel successful as readers.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, students were immediately excited—especially when they realized they had choices in what and how they read. The adventure books quickly became favorites, and students often recommend them to each other. The addition of the quick 15-minute crafts has also been incredibly impactful. Students use these hands-on activities while retelling stories, strengthening comprehension, building fine motor skills, and helping regulate their emotions. The combination of reading and creating has made learning feel accessible and enjoyable.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue using these materials to support reading engagement and comprehension across all grade levels. Because everything is available to the entire student body, more and more students are coming into the launch room to read, create, and connect with learning in a way that works for them. These resources are helping us build a space where students feel successful, motivated, and excited to learn. Your support has made that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1768242040694,"projectUrl":"project/rural-students-literacy-art-to-build-s/10001095/","projectTitle":"Rural Students Literacy & Art to Build Strong Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3596492_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1464205080017","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3596492"},{"teacherId":3596492,"projectId":9866660,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity in supporting our project, \"Hope in a Bag: Nutritious Food Kits for Students.\" Because of you, my students now have access to nutritious food kits that provide consistency, comfort, and support beyond the classroom. These kits are being used regularly by students who need a reliable food source to stay focused and engaged during the school day. One moment that truly stood out was seeing students quietly smile and relax when they realized the bags were theirs—no questions asked, no judgment—just care and support.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the kits, their reactions were a mix of excitement, relief, and gratitude. Some immediately began talking about how the food would help them after school or on weekends, while others simply said \"thank you\" and held onto the bag like it was something precious. In our rural and remote community, resources can be limited, and your donation helped students feel seen and supported in a very real, tangible way.\r\n\r\nAs we continue our classroom work, having students' basic needs met allows us to focus more fully on learning. With fewer distractions from hunger, students are better able to participate in reading, discussions, and collaborative activities.
