One day a student came into my classroom room very upset and crying. I provided a variety of sensory objects for him to interact with. He chose a few items and was able to calm down enough to talk about what happened. \r\nI keep a variety of sensory items in my bag as I visit preschool classrooms. We had a lockdown drill at our school one day. I was working in the special needs preschool at the time of the drill. We were supposed to teach the students to stay in a specific spot of the classroom and be quiet. They happily engaged with the sensory items during the drill. The students were so quiet and willing stayed together while engaging with the sensory items. Each student was able to find an item that they enjoyed.
