My students have been putting these materials to great use, exploring new ideas and creating artwork they are proud of.\r\n\r\nOur sixth graders created TV shadow boxes, learning how to use foreground, middle ground, and background to create depth and turn their ideas into three-dimensional scenes. They enjoyed designing their own miniature worlds and deciding what would be shown on their TVs!\r\n\r\nOur fourth- and fifth-graders created Picasso-inspired faces using concrete forms and imaginative facial features. They explored how artists can break away from traditional ways of representing the face, experiment with different perspectives, and use their creativity to make each artwork unique.\r\n\r\nThese projects gave students opportunities to experiment, solve problems, and express their individual ideas through art. I was able to add to my classroom library with the books, \"Investigators\" and \"My Weird School.\" There are a few books from each set.\r\n I have had several students read the books for the first time and enjoyed them so much that they read the rest in the series. It has also helped some of my students enjoy reading because they are fun books. Our librarian is doing a reading challenge where students are encouraged to read 40 books this year. I have noticed several of my students reading these books and counting them towards the challenge. \r\n I believe children can discover a world of reading through a variety of genres.
