The whiteboards you purchased have been filled with hundreds of words as my students practice mapping tricky high-frequency words. Plus, they are the perfect size for multiple students to work together on the tabletop I teach at. My students can't wait for me to pull them out, so they can use them to improve their spelling and letter formation.\r\n\r\nI've struggled for years to find a way to help students understand the tricky phonics concept of SCHWA. This year, with the help of The Not-so-Lazy Schwa book, I've finally succeeded! My students have a clear understanding of what the Schwa sound is and are looking for it everywhere in their reading and writing.\r\n\r\nThe fruit snacks are being used to play \"Beat the Teacher,\" a welded-chunk game I created to solidify phonograms. It's amazing what students will do for a single fruit snack! We play the game whenever there is two-or-three spare minutes at the end of their intervention lesson. It encourages everyone to work hard and pay attention throughout their 30-minute lesson, so there is enough time to do the \"Beat the Teacher\" challenge.\r\n\r\nAgain, Thank you for donating to my DonorsChoose project. They noticed these new devices the minute they entered the PE area. There was genuine excitement and amazement in their voices as they shared their heart rate with peers and with me. Students can feel their heart beating fast when they run, but it brings awareness to a whole new level when there is a number associated with it. \"My heart rate was at 160!\" As we continue to check heart rates during PE, keep the data on a sheet, and graph it over time, they will deepen their understanding of how their movement impacts their health. \r\nThe Heart Zone Cards will be an added learning tool to help students understand how exercising affects their bodies. Using the chart, they will be able to match their goal with the appropriate level of exercise and choose activities that align with both. I showed the kids in a 3D model how numbers work with tens and ones. So valuable. The kids also manipulated them in small group. The Teachers pay teachers gift card has been so valuable. The upper-grade students played horseshoes for the first time. They used an underhand throwing technique and teamed up with a partner to play this classic game. As students entered the gym and saw the equipment set up, they were excited. A few even commented that they have played this game with their families. Using this equipment, students demonstrated throwing skills, game etiquette, and social skills.\r\n All students had the opportunity to use the beach balls. Upper grades used them to practice two-hand overhead volley. The beach ball is easier to control than a regular volleyball, so this was valuable as students worked to be successful and improve. The lower-grade students practiced tossing and catching with the beach ball. Because these are large and brightly colored, it is easier to visually track them in the air and catch them. \r\n Finally, the lower-grade students used the brightly colored bean bags for several activities.
