Through these texts, students are practicing skills such as identifying the central idea, making inferences, using text evidence, understanding vocabulary in context, and discussing what they have read. They are learning that strong readers do more than simply read the words—they think, question, make connections, and support their ideas with evidence.\r\n\r\nReading in our classrooms is active and engaging. Students read independently, with partners, and as a class. They talk about their thinking, respond to questions, and share their ideas with classmates. Having new books available has also given students more choices, which is especially important as we work to build confident readers who see reading as something they can enjoy.\r\n\r\nOne of the best parts of this project has been seeing students excited about getting their hands on new books. Some of our students who do not always choose reading on their own have been especially interested in exploring the new selections. Watching students recommend books to one another, talk about what they are reading, and look forward to choosing their next book has been wonderful.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting our students and helping us create classrooms where they have access to engaging books. Your generosity is helping us strengthen their reading skills while also encouraging a love of reading that we hope will continue to grow.","fullyFundedDate":1777980037867,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-love-for-reading-through-enga/10162583/","projectTitle":"Building a Love for Reading Through Engaging Book Sets","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bartolo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8233310_orig.jpg?crop=1271,1271,x8,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1655858463313","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8233310"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_12237","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":506,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":66,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":25,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":68,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":46.8,"schoolId":12237,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dunaway Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dunaway Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/waxahachie-independent-school-district/dunaway-elementary-school/12237"}
