The students and I have loved getting to enrich our learning with the Lego Spike Essentials kits. \r\n\r\nWhen I unveiled the kits, the students were beyond excited. Many of them have used Legos before, but none have had the opportunity to do robotics. We initially did one specific carousel activity together so the students could understand how program works. Since then, they have been given the freedom to follow another prescribed activities or try to create something on their own. It is incredible to watch their little minds create and explore, as well as problem solve and persevere when faced with challenges. \r\n\r\nWe are currently working on semester research projects for our parent showcase, and I'm planning to incorporate the Lego Spike Essentials kits in our final product. Students are researching animals, and we are going to use the rotating \"Ferris wheel\" structure to attach pictures of the food web specific to our animals to each spoke. So the food web will rotate as the students are describing their animals and their predators and prey. \r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much for providing these resources to enable our students to learn and grow!","fullyFundedDate":1733165082363,"projectUrl":"project/robotics-connecting-our-learning-to-the/8926960/","projectTitle":"Robotics: Connecting Our Learning to the Real World!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McIntosh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9829547"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_15069","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":304,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":9,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":24,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":52,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 1","studentTeacherRatio":"12.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":51.3,"schoolId":15069,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about McCord Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"McCord Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/vernon-independent-school-district/mccord-elementary-school/15069"}
