These books also introduce new vocabulary and give students opportunities to build background knowledge in science, social studies, and the world around them.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is one of the happiest parts of our day. Students curl up in our reading corner, swap books with friends, and excitedly recommend stories to one another. Independent reading time has become a moment of calm focus, and partner reading has turned into a joyful routine where students help each other sound out tricky words or discuss what might happen next in the story.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially connected with the new books. One of my reluctant readers now rushes to grab a graphic novel every morning and proudly reads it aloud to me.
