With materials like artist finishing markers with India ink, Gelli plates, and enhanced classroom elements like a speaker and light covers, students now have both the tools and the environment to create work that feels exciting and intentional. One of my favorite moments was during our cross-curricular Desert Landscapes project, in which students illustrated the phases of the moon. They used layered techniques, experimented with texture, and began thinking more deeply about how to represent scientific concepts through art. These new materials would take that kind of project even further—allowing their work to \"glow,\" both visually and creatively.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials were introduced, students were immediately excited and curious. They were eager to explore, test out new techniques, and share ideas with one another. That excitement quickly turned into confidence—students began suggesting new ways to use the materials and were more willing to try unfamiliar approaches. It created a buzz in the classroom, making learning feel fresh and engaging.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue building on projects like our desert landscapes by incorporating more advanced techniques using India ink and printmaking with Gelli plates. They'll also explore new cross-curricular connections, especially with science, to deepen both their artistic and academic understanding. As we move forward, students will document their process, collaborate with peers, and take greater ownership of their learning—growing not only as artists, but as creative thinkers who feel empowered in our classroom space.","fullyFundedDate":1746446197000,"projectUrl":"project/ringing-in-a-new-era/9177208/","projectTitle":"Ringing in a New Era","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gomer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1942484_orig.jpg?crop=1401,1401,x38,y67&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1695174071157","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msgomer"},{"teacherId":465758,"projectId":8773280,"letterContent":"My students had an amazing time creating their dioramas!
