The makerspace materials and celebration supplies transformed our attendance celebration into an engaging, hands-on experience where students were able to create, collaborate, and celebrate their accomplishments together. One of the most memorable moments was watching students proudly design and personalize their own creations while talking about how excited they were to continue coming to school every day. Many of our students rarely get opportunities like this, so seeing their faces light up when they walked into the decorated space was truly unforgettable.\r\n\r\nThe resources from this project helped create a positive school culture centered around attendance, accountability, creativity, and community. Students immediately became excited when they saw the materials laid out and began brainstorming ideas together before the activities even started. The celebration became more than just a reward, it became a meaningful experience that encouraged teamwork, confidence, and connection among peers. Several students shared that they felt \"special\" and \"seen,\" which reminded us just how important positive reinforcement can be for middle school students.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to continue using these materials for additional attendance incentives, makerspace activities, and leadership-building opportunities throughout the school year. Our goal is to keep building a school environment where students feel motivated to show up, participate, and succeed both academically and socially. Thanks to our donors, we are now able to provide more engaging experiences that encourage students to stay connected to school while also giving them opportunities to be creative, expressive, and proud of themselves. Your kindness made a lasting impact on our students and our campus community.","fullyFundedDate":1772807490974,"projectUrl":"project/perfect-attendance-makerspace-celebrati/9910964/","projectTitle":"Perfect Attendance Makerspace: Celebrating Success Through Creativity/Personalized Tote Bags","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Pomerlee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9911890"},{"teacherId":9911890,"projectId":9955478,"letterContent":"This project gave our Girl Scouts an opportunity to express themselves, celebrate their accomplishments, and build pride in being part of something bigger than themselves. Using the new tote bags, patches, and crafting materials, students were able to design and personalize their own Girl Scout bags that represent their individual journeys, achievements, and leadership experiences. One of the most special moments was watching students carefully choose where to place each patch while sharing stories about the badges they had earned and the experiences connected to them.\r\n\r\nWhen the girls first saw the materials, they were beyond excited. Many immediately began brainstorming designs, helping one another plan layouts, and talking about future patches they hoped to earn. The project created an environment filled with creativity, collaboration, confidence, and sisterhood. For many students, this was more than just decorating a bag, it was a chance to feel recognized, connected, and proud of their hard work and growth as young leaders.\r\n\r\nThese bags are now being used during troop meetings, leadership activities, service projects, and campus events, giving students a sense of ownership and identity within our Girl Scout community. Our next steps include continuing leadership development activities, community service opportunities, and badge-earning experiences where students can continue adding to and personalizing their bags throughout the year. The black lights, glow materials, review games, and hands-on activities transformed our classrooms into an exciting STAAR review environment where students were actively learning, collaborating, and having fun at the same time. Students immediately lit up with excitement when they walked into the room and saw everything glowing; many of them said it was the \"best review day ever!\"\r\n\r\nWe used the resources to create interactive review stations focused on reading comprehension, vocabulary, constructed responses, and test-taking strategies. One of the most impactful moments was watching students who normally struggle with engagement eagerly participate in every activity, encourage their classmates, and stay focused throughout the entire lesson. The glow theme helped reduce testing anxiety while increasing motivation and confidence before state testing.\r\n\r\nThe materials are continuing to support instruction beyond Glow Day as we incorporate collaborative review games, station rotations, and hands-on learning experiences into our regular classroom routines. Our next steps are using these same engagement strategies to strengthen writing skills, critical thinking, and small-group intervention lessons as students continue preparing for end-of-year assessments and future academic success.\r\n\r\nYour support created more than just a fun day. Glow Day created joy, confidence, community, and meaningful learning experiences for our students. Because of your generosity, our troop now has the snacks and drinks we need to make our weekly meetings engaging, joyful, and meaningful. The girls were so excited the first time they walked into our meeting and saw a table full of choices. Their faces lit up, and several students said, \"We feel official now!\"\r\n\r\nOur troop has already put your support to great use. Since we meet during lunchtime, snacks have helped transform the space into a warm and inviting environment where girls feel comfortable settling in, relaxing, and getting ready to learn. While enjoying their treats, students have worked on earning badges related to leadership, community service, and financial literacy. One of my favorite recent moments was watching two students from different grade levels share supplies and help each other complete steps toward their \"Sisterhood\" badge, all while bonding over their snack choices.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, no student has to worry about coming to the meeting hungry or feeling left out. The girls are energized, focused, and more engaged in discussions and activities. Our next steps include diving deeper into our badge work, including planning a small service project and preparing for cookie sales season. With snacks to fuel them, the girls are eager to brainstorm, collaborate, and take the lead!\r\n\r\nYour generosity nourished far more than appetites, it fed confidence, community, and leadership. The moment the girls learned that our project had been fully funded, their faces lit up. They couldn't believe that people inside and outside of our school community saw their potential and were willing to invest in their growth. Knowing that the tote bags are waiting for them has already built anticipation and pride throughout our meetings.\r\n\r\nThese totes will become a hands-on showcase of each girl's leadership journey. Instead of the traditional sash, the girls will decorate their own bags to display badges they've earned in service, financial literacy, team building, and personal development. Our troop includes students from multiple grades and backgrounds, so this project will also give them a shared space to collaborate, support each other, and express their individuality. When we gather to decorate them, students will reflect on their accomplishments, take ownership of their achievements, and celebrate the ways they've grown this year.\r\n\r\nOnce completed, these tote bags will continue to accompany the girls to every meeting, outing, and community event — a visual reminder that they are capable, valued, and connected to something bigger than themselves. Your gift made that possible. You didn't just fund a craft; you helped create a memory, build confidence, and give every girl something she can take pride in long after the school year and their journey at Sadler Means YWLA ends.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our troop. 💚✨","fullyFundedDate":1763054297995,"projectUrl":"project/girl-scouts-on-the-go-tote-bags-for-our/9873652/","projectTitle":"Girl Scouts on the Go: Tote Bags for Our Troop","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Pomerlee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9911890"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17169","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":346,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":73,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":70.6,"schoolId":17169,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bertha Sadler Means Young Women's Leadership Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bertha Sadler Means Young Women's Leadership Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/austin-independent-school-district/pearce-middle-school/17169"}
