These materials can be used by students throughout our entire school. Students are reading stories about friendship, kindness, emotions, challenges, and perseverance. These books give students opportunities to see themselves in stories, talk about their feelings, and recognize that they are not alone in the challenges they face.\r\n\r\nFor many of my fifth- and sixth-grade striving readers, reading has not always been an enjoyable experience. The cozy pillows and engaging books have helped change that. Students are excited to choose a book, settle in, and simply enjoy reading. I have watched reluctant readers become more willing to pick up a book and share what they think and feel about the story.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me create a space where students can feel valued and discover the joy of reading.. The impact of these graphic novels on my students has been immediate and meaningful! Some of my striving 6th grade readers are returning students from last year, and when they walked into the classroom this year, they commented that our classroom library \"looked brand new!\" They were especially excited to discover the new graphic novels. They wanted to read those like their friends last year, but some were above their level, which did not increase their confidence. Their eyes lit up when they saw the new books with characters who looked like them, came from diverse backgrounds, and experienced some of the same challenges they face with friendships, classmates, family, and feeling like they belong.\r\n\r\nStudents who sometimes hesitate to pick up a book are eager to browse the new collection and talk about the characters. Some have ASKED to borrow the books, which did not happen much at all last year. \r\nThe books have created opportunities for students to see themselves and their experiences reflected in our classroom library while also learning about the experiences of others.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me create a classroom where my students can see themselves as successful readers. These books are doing more than filling our shelves—they are helping students feel seen, included, connected, and proud to be readers. Through robotics and engineering activities, students were able to collaborate, problem-solve, and communicate using academic vocabulary in meaningful contexts rather than through isolated language drills. Also the cubes, were a great resource to help my newcomers learn some basic math concepts (e.g. sets).\r\n\r\nThe project increased student engagement significantly. Some students who were typically hesitant to participate during traditional instruction became highly motivated during robotics sessions. Building robots, assembling components, and troubleshooting designs created a learning environment where students naturally used English to ask questions, give directions, explain ideas, and negotiate solutions with peers. This supported both BICS (social language) and CALP (academic language) development simultaneously.\r\n\r\nThe robotics activities also strengthened teamwork and classroom community. Students assumed collaborative roles such as builder, organizer, reader of instructions, or materials manager, which encouraged participation from learners at different English proficiency levels. Multilingual learners who sometimes struggled academically were able to demonstrate leadership, creativity, and problem-solving abilities, improving their confidence and sense of belonging in the classroom.\r\n\r\nAcademically, through the integration of STEM vocabulary allowed learners to encounter academic English in a contextualized and memorable way. Students used terms related to motion, structure, electricity, tools, shapes, and engineering processes during authentic communication tasks.\r\n\r\nThe project also contributed to a positive classroom culture centered on curiosity, innovation, and perseverance. Students learned that mistakes and revisions are part of the engineering design process. This fostered resilience and encouraged learners to persist through challenges rather than fear failure.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the project expanded students' exposure to educational technology and robotics experiences that many may not otherwise have access to. For several multilingual learners, the robotics kits represented their first opportunity to participate in coding, engineering, and hands-on STEM construction activities.
