With classrooms becoming more and more diverse, it's important that students can identify with the characters in their books to instill a love of reading. My classroom library is in need of an update to reflect my student population. I would like to order books by diverse authors with diverse characters to broaden our reading horizon. I feel it's important that young students learn how to see things from multiple points of view in order to be successful in society. These books will be used by my students both at home and in the classroom to teach many literacy skills in both reading and writing. This will include skills such a empathizing with the reader and writer, characterization, plot development, cause and effect, and so much more.
