One favorite is Aaron's Thinking Putty, which helps students engage their senses through tactile input and scent. These resources support students in self-regulation, stress reduction, and staying engaged during counseling sessions, check-ins, and breaks when they need additional sensory support.\r\nMy students were very excited to explore the new materials. Because I serve a diverse student population representing a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds, many students do not have access to games, sensory tools, or fidgets at home. Having these resources available in my office creates a welcoming and supportive environment where students feel cared for and eager to participate. They are always curious to see what is \"new\" and appreciate having access to items that help them calm down, focus, and regulate emotions.\r\nAs we prepare for summer and the close of the school year, the next steps include refreshing and reorganizing student engagement and calming tools. Many frequently used materials, such as playdough, putty, and other hands-on sensory items, need to be replaced because they cannot be fully sanitized or stored for the next academic year. I am beginning to build a new coping skills and self-regulation bin so students will continue to have a variety of healthy sensory and calming options to choose from when they are overwhelmed, dysregulated, or simply need a moment to reset and refocus.\r\nThank you for supporting my students!!","fullyFundedDate":1772039935452,"projectUrl":"project/engagement-tools/9891480/","projectTitle":"Engagement Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dub (Social Worker)","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9362171_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723126128902","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9362171"},{"teacherId":2978552,"projectId":9892911,"letterContent":"First, I would like to thank you for your generosity and kindness. Your donations will help me to teach my students a life skill that they will be able to use years after they leave the walls of our school. Not only will I use the machines to teach this class of scholars some basic sewing techniques, but additional classes, as well. \r\n\r\nMy sewing club students (with both boys and girls) were so excited to unbox the brand-new sewing machines (with kits)! It made my heart sing when I saw our kids tinker with the machines, unafraid! In a short 45 minute time frame, they learned to use the foot petal, lift and raise the presser foot, and how to sew in a straight line. I was a bit emotional when I heard the rhythmic humming of the machines, and saw how engaged our scholars were in learning this new skill. \r\n\r\nAfter perfecting sewing straight lines and pivoting, I will have our scholars learning how to sew curves. Then, I plan to have our scholars delve a bit deeper into how to thread the machine. Lastly, we will finish up the course by doing projects. We will start with a teddy bear and pencil pouch. Then, I will have students choose their own culminating sewing project. I've already had one student tell me that her dream is to work in fashion design. Thanks to your generosity, she's one step closer in making her dream a reality!
