For a few years now I have had it on my heart to create a Kindness Squad. I wanted to provide an opportunity for a group of students to come together and be immersed in kindness. This opportunity would allow students of different grades, social economic statuses, and backgrounds to grow as individuals. I believe there are adults in our culture who lack kindness, empathy, and an understanding of human compassion. If we can cultivate kindness when people are young then we are setting the stage to have a better world.\r\nThis summer I thought, why not? My schedule had a little margin in this upcoming school year and if I could get our initial activities funded, we would be set. Because of your generosity, the Kindness Squad is now a reality!\r\nAnother teacher and I had our first monthly Kindness Squad meeting and the students made signs for Feel Good Friday. They loved the variety of posters and markers we were able to provide! Each Friday the students use the karaoke machine we received to help welcome students into the building. With signs like \"Honk if you're happy,\" and \"Happy Friday,\" the students also are encouraging adults as they drive through the car rider line. We have had great feedback from our school community.\r\nDuring our initial meeting the students brainstormed various ideas on how we can spread kindness all year. Thank you again for your generous heart which is allowing us to show that being kind truly does matter.","fullyFundedDate":1753644128183,"projectUrl":"project/kindness-squad/9427952/","projectTitle":"Kindness Squad","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Marisa Wright","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1885702_orig.jpg?crop=1466,1466,x0,y725&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750645984738","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1885702"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_134310","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":null,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":29,"percentWhite":50,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":false,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":95.3,"schoolId":134310,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Johns Island Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Johns Island Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/charleston-county-school-district/johns-island-elementary-school/134310"}
