Using them became a part of a positive routine in the classroom.\r\nThe positivity rocks turned out great! The activity provided an opportunity for students to focus on something positive and pass kindess along. They were so creative and thoughtful with their messages. The crêpe maker has brought French cuisine to life in an exciting, hands-on way. Students are now able to follow instructions in French, ask questions, and collaborate while preparing crêpes together. This practical activity allows them to actively practice cooking-related vocabulary and conversational skills, while also deepening their connection to French culture. One memorable moment was when students eagerly jumped into making their first batch of crêpes, using French to guide each other through the process – a clear sign of their growing confidence in the language.\r\n\r\nWhen the crêpe maker arrived, the excitement was palpable! The students were thrilled to see such a fun and interactive tool that would allow them to engage with French in a tangible way. Their enthusiasm only grew as they prepared their crêpes and realized how much they could accomplish in French, even in a casual, non-traditional classroom setting. The next step for us is to continue building on this experience, using the crêpe-making activity to explore French food culture further, discuss French culinary history, and even create their own recipes in French. This project has sparked a new level of enthusiasm and curiosity in the class, and we can't wait to see where it takes us next!","fullyFundedDate":1741176000168,"projectUrl":"project/crpe-maker-for-high-school-french-class/9003858/","projectTitle":"Crêpe Maker for High School French Classes!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Vaiana Brown","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7514275_orig.jpg?crop=798,798,x31,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1600706312387","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7514275"},{"teacherId":1468626,"projectId":8745909,"letterContent":"I'm incredibly grateful to have access to such a wide range of materials for our Aquatic Ecology Unit that were generously donated by you! These resources allowed my students to dive into hands-on exploration of a small stream in Coastal South Carolina. Thanks to these materials, we were able to take learning beyond the classroom and conduct real water quality testing, as well as sample for macroinvertebrates—small invertebrates that live in lakes and streams.\r\nAt first, the chest waders and nets were a bit intimidating for my students. But once we got streamside, everything clicked into place. They quickly embraced the experience, using the macroinvertebrates they collected to calculate a water quality index, helping us assess the overall health of the stream. Back in the classroom, students compiled their findings into spreadsheets and began analyzing their own data—data that will become part of an ongoing multi-year dataset.\r\nIn the two weeks leading up to our field trip, we studied macroinvertebrate life cycles and explored how different species vary in their tolerance to pollution and changes in water quality. But the real magic happened in the stream. The moment my students spotted live dragonfly and mayfly larvae in their nets, their excitement was electric. As they collected more specimens, I saw just how much of our classroom learning had stuck. They remembered that some species gather in leaf packs, others prefer staying at the stream bottom, and that predators should be kept separate from prey. Their curiosity exploded—they wanted to know more about these ecosystems, how they work, and how they can help protect them.\r\nGetting their hands (and waders!) dirty gave my students a personal connection to the freshwater habitats in their own backyard. That connection sparked not only engagement but also a deeper sense of responsibility.\r\nCoastal freshwater ecosystems face serious threats from sea level rise, habitat loss, and pollution. Monitoring their health is essential to understanding the impacts of human activity and environmental change. Experiences like this are vital—not just for science education, but for cultivating future environmental stewards. When students form personal connections with their environment, they're more likely to grow into adults who care, question, and act on behalf of the natural world.","fullyFundedDate":1735582217105,"projectUrl":"project/too-salty-sea-level-rise-freshwater-e/8745909/","projectTitle":"Too Salty!
