The cash register and calendar have allowed my students to participate in realistic, hands-on activities that strengthen their independence and job-readiness skills. We use the cash register to complete simulated grocery-store transactions, with students taking turns working as cashiers and customers. They practice entering prices, counting money, making change, giving receipts, and communicating appropriately during each transaction. The calendar also helps students practice time management, planning, and following daily and weekly schedules.\r\n\r\nMy students were excited to see the new materials and eager to begin using the register. The hands-on practice makes our lessons feel more meaningful because students can connect what they are learning to experiences they may have at work and in the community.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to use these resources to start our own classroom business. Students will help plan the business, create schedules, manage products, operate the register, assist customers, and keep track of sales. Your generosity has given my students the chance to practice real-world responsibilities in a safe, supportive environment.
