Instead of scattered floor spots or rearranging seating, students now enter the room and immediately know where to sit. We use the rug daily for opening rhythm work, echo singing, movement activities, and group discussions. It has become our \"home base\": a consistent, comfortable place where learning starts.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the rug, their reaction was immediate. Several of them gasped and asked if it was really for us. Our youngest learners were especially excited to find their own defined spaces and sit in a circle with their peers. What may seem like a simple classroom addition has created a stronger sense of community and focus. Students settle more quickly, transitions are smoother, and they take pride in keeping our shared space orderly.\r\n\r\nRight now, we are using the rug as the central meeting area for rhythm composition activities and call-and-response exercises. In the coming weeks, it will anchor small group centers and collaborative music-making projects. Because of you, our classroom procedures are clearer, our environment is calmer, and our students have a welcoming space where creativity can thrive. Thank you for helping build the foundation, literally, for meaningful music learning.","fullyFundedDate":1764629308283,"projectUrl":"project/sit-sing-and-play-a-musical-rug-for-e/9543554/","projectTitle":"Sit, Sing, and Play: A Musical Rug for Every Day","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. H","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10055386_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749753770643","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10055386"},{"teacherId":10413459,"projectId":10044246,"letterContent":"THANK YOU!\r\n On behhalf of the students we serve, I want to extend a heartfelt thanks for your generous support of our cause. \r\n I am so appreciative of the generosity of the donors. The acquisition of a classroom set of ukuleles has fueled a new learning model for our 3rd and 4th grade students. Ukuleles provide access not only to traditional music pedagogy and repertoire, but also to popular music that is relevant to the diverse abilities, cultures, and personalities of the 200 students that I teach this instrument to.\r\n\r\nAfter the installation of wall hooks, and later the display of our new classroom instruments, my learners were awestruck at the prospect of using instruments that appear in the hands of popstars. Learners in the South Allegheny music classroom feel empowered to advance their musician's skills and engage with creative spirit in learning open strings, chordal patterns, and practicing their songwriting. \r\n\r\nMy future plans include streamlining access and improving our learning environment by raising funds to acquire a rug for Kindergarten, First and Second Grade students. Having a that kind of fixture available can create a sense of comfort and strengthen routines with our youngest learners. Other future plans include diversifying lessons on ukuleles and incorporating a heterogeneous ensemble to achieve a \"rock band\" effect in our classroom.\r\n\r\nWe are always looking ahead at South Allegheny and I can't wait to continue to innovate music practices here in our district!","fullyFundedDate":1752586593288,"projectUrl":"project/uke-can-help-strummin-into-4th-grade/9411368/","projectTitle":"Uke Can Help: Strummin' Into 4th Grade","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. H","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10055386_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749753770643","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10055386"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_88739","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":635,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":72,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.5,"schoolId":88739,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Allegheny Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Allegheny Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/south-allegheny-school-district/south-allegheny-elementary-school/88739"}
