Each of the materials chosen for this project will help to blast my students off into fun and engaging math lessons. My district is implementing a designated time each day devoted to getting students actively engrossed in math. Each day students will be working with things such as MagnaTiles to create shapes, patterns, and structures based on measurement. They will use math games to work collaboratively with other students and share their knowledge of various math concepts. They will use dry erase pockets, erasers, and markers to complete and organize various printed games throughout all lessons. Engaging these young learners in meaningful and interesting application helps them to understand and retain concepts learned during direct instruction. Each of these tools will be used daily by energetic first graders. They will be given opportunities to work with their peers in small groups to apply their knowledge of direct instruction, express their confusion on a topic, enrich their learning, or receive remediation on a struggling topic. Station learning will help my students get exactly what they need to reach for the stars!
