The overall goal for these books is to develop critical thinking, one of our district's core values. Several books also address the more specific need of learning about personal finance. \r\n\r\nMy classroom is the library, so sometimes the reading happens here, of course. More often, the books are checked out and taken back to use in class or at home. It was especially exciting to me because I was working with younger students last year and just got moved to work with the older students -- students that I had up to 6 years ago in some cases. It was a nice way to get reacquainted. \r\n\r\nThere is more to it than just fun though. I have done a number of Lego Architecture projects with students, where we typically find the dimensions of the real structure first, build the Lego structure second, and find what scale was used. This was a time where we got to do it in reverse: starting with a fictional Lego building and computing how big it would be in real life based on the scale we decided to use.\r\n\r\nIt's not done yet, but we are excited to see how it turns out compared to our previous projects.
