This project has given us a fun and meaningful way to celebrate birthdays, recognize positive behavior, reward hard work, and make special classroom days even more memorable. For students in our Life Skills and Autistic Support classrooms, these celebrations and incentives can be incredibly motivating and help create a classroom community where students feel valued and proud of their accomplishments.\r\n\r\nThe Ninja SLUSHi Machine also provides opportunities for students to practice important real-world and functional skills. Students can help choose flavors, measure ingredients, prepare drinks, organize supplies, serve their classmates, and clean up afterward. These everyday essentials have already made a difference in keeping our classroom clean, organized, and ready for learning. The tissues and hand sanitizer help us keep germs under control, while the broom and dustpan sets and food service gloves are especially helpful as our students practice classroom jobs and real-life independent living and vocational skills. The laminating sheets and printer ink allow us to create durable learning materials that can be used again and again. The birthday bracelets have also been a fun way to make each student feel recognized and special on their birthday!\r\n\r\nOur students were excited when the supplies arrived and loved helping unpack and organize everything. It was a great opportunity to show them that people outside of our school care about their success and want to support their classroom. Students had to conduct visual research, create sketches and then learn how to bring their idea to life with plaster casting and acrylic paints. \r\nThese projects were a huge hit! Every single student participated! We even had a donut party at the end of the project to celebrate their creative energy. A selection of the masks and food dishes will be on display at the end of May, at the Pittsburgh's Down Town Gallery Crawl, in the City's Cultural District. \r\n\r\nThe willow charcoal was used to create 22x28in STORNG EMOTIONS subtractive technique portraits. Two of the many portraits are now representing Perry HS at the All-City-Arts exhibition: annual art show for the Pittsburgh Public School District. \r\n\r\nStudents really enjoyed getting messy with the charcoal and being able to infinitely erase and re-do their drawings. They also enjoyed exploring strong emotions, both in humans and animals.
