We are currently using these resources during our OT and in-class learning groups, such as morning meeting and independent reading. One specific moment that stands out involved a student who typically struggled to stay in his seat due to sensory seeking; by using a textured hand fidget, he was able to keep his hands busy and his body calm, allowing him to participate in a 5-minute circle time for the first time this year. These tools are providing the \"quiet\" sensory input their bodies crave so their minds can stay present for learning.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the variety of chewies and fidgets, their reaction was one of pure joy and relief. They were eager to explore the different textures and resistances, treating the arrival like a special classroom celebration. For many of our students, these aren't just toys—they are essential tools that help them feel regulated. Seeing the colorful array of options made them feel that their unique sensory needs were being recognized and valued, which has built a wonderful sense of safety and belonging within our classroom community.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, our next steps involve a \"Self-Regulation Station\" project where students will learn to identify their own \"engine speeds.\" We are teaching them how to match their current energy level with the right tool—using a chewy when they feel the need to mouth objects or a specific fidget when they feel restless. This transition from teacher-led support to student-led self-advocacy is a huge milestone for kindergarten and elementary learners. Your generous donation has given them the physical resources they need to master these life-long emotional regulation skills, and we are so excited to see their independence grow.","fullyFundedDate":1771510091352,"projectUrl":"project/chew-fidget-and-improve-attention/10040809/","projectTitle":"Chew, Fidget and Improve Attention","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Robinson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9414559_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1702671271991","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9414559"},{"teacherId":10348787,"projectId":9891532,"letterContent":"Getting the resources for out tech room was a game changer for so many kids. Just in the past 2 weeks I have seen kids who were highly distracted by others to excelling on their own tech projects. \r\n\r\nThe headphones came just in time for School District of Philadelphia's Hour of Code & Hour of AI challenges. As you can see from the pictures kids were doing all different chosen challenges including programing Angry birds, building blocks with StarWars, Coding a beaver to leave wood in holes open dams. The kids showed such ability when they were able to soley focus on their own project. I feel that with out these added resource the students wouldn't have lived up to such a big district challenge and now feel they can complete with peers all over the district. \r\n\r\nI can't wait to see how successful the kids can be in this upcoming new year and years ahead of them using these new resources!
