By moving beyond simple facts, Bea's Bees and Fossils Tell of Long Ago help our students develop critical observation skills and a sense of environmental agency. In Bea's Bees, students follow a narrative that teaches them how to identify different bee species and understand the \"cause and effect\" of habitat loss, which empowers them to think about real-world conservation. Fossils Tell of Long Ago introduces the concept of \"Deep Time,\" helping children visualize Earth's history through clear diagrams of mold and cast fossils. In our classroom, reading looks like a bustling laboratory: you might see students using \"bee finger puppets\" to simulate pollination with Cheetos dust, or pressing shells into clay to recreate the fossilization process described in Aliki's book. These texts turn quiet reading into a springboard for hands-on inquiry, where the book provides the \"why\" and the students discover the \"how.\"\r\n\r\nWe've seen a particular spark in our aspiring environmentalists and visual learners. For example, students who were once nervous about insects are now \"Bee Scouts,\" inspired by Beatrix's bravery to advocate for pollinator gardens in our own schoolyard. Fossils Tell of Long Ago has been a huge hit with our kinesthetic learners; the book's conversational tone and diverse characters—including scientists of all backgrounds—make the field of paleontology feel accessible and exciting to every child. One of our quieter students recently led a \"museum tour\" of our classroom's clay fossils, using the technical vocabulary she learned directly from the text. By providing these high-quality resources, you aren't just giving them books; you're giving them the tools to see themselves as the scientists and protectors of tomorrow.","fullyFundedDate":1773843512447,"projectUrl":"project/chapters-of-change/10150888/","projectTitle":"Chapters of Change","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brooks","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3025260_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1565462906210","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3025260"},{"teacherId":4183956,"projectId":9962842,"letterContent":"The table lamps in this project are the icing on the cake for my classroom. This is one of the final steps in completing the light situation in my room. I am pleased to report that, even on cloudy days (as hoped!) the table lamps create enough light, along with other neon lights/other light sources in the room, to keep the big overhead fluorescent lights off. Aromatherapy claims certain scents can calm or create other pleasant sensory experiences for your nervous system via your scent of smell. I believe it! Even if you don't, it never hurts to have a crisp, clean-smelling room assist your artist experience right under your nose (pun). I'm on a Ms Myers Cleaning Day kick and have been using these products in the art room this year over our diffusers.
