Your kindness made a real difference in the day-to-day experiences of our first-grade learners and helped us create a cleaner, healthier space for learning.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our classroom was well stocked with essential cleaning and hygiene supplies. Items such as Purell hand sanitizer, Clorox and Amazon Basics disinfecting wipes, Lysol disinfectant spray, and multi-surface cleaner allowed us to regularly clean desks, tables, door handles, shared materials, and other high-touch areas. Disposable gloves were used when cleaning and assisting learners, helping keep everyone safe. Fabric deodorizer spray was used to freshen rugs and shared spaces, helping our classroom feel clean, comfortable, and welcoming.\r\n\r\nHaving these supplies readily available allowed us to spend less time worrying about sanitation and more time focused on learning, building routines, and supporting our learners. My room serves as not just the art room but a much desired place of rest and fun. The lights, smells, extra-special art supplies (beyond just paper and pencil) and the snacks have become as much a signature of art at Lawton as making actual art. The snacks have-just like the Sour Patch Candy and stickers- become attached to the expectation of the art room experience. My goal with my project was to create a more hands-on, multi-sensory room for my students with special needs, who come in for support. Specifically, the kinetic sand helped my students who were struggling with letter identification in Kindergarten use their hands, which helped increase their ability to identify letters, from 25% to 50% in the 6 weeks since I have had the materials. Having them not just see, hear, and say the letters, but actually using their hands to form the letters using sand has been very beneficial. Also, using the sand as an incentive has been helpful to me in managing behaviors. Another skill in my 3rd grade group that we are working on is counting money. The magnetic money gave us the ability to touch the money, manipulate it to count different amounts, and hold it in their hand. Similar to actual play money but much less messy and we were able to do whole group lessons because of the size of the money. Your donation has also helped me and has made an impact on my teaching, which I am forever grateful for.\r\n\r\nAs a special education teacher, I strive for progress, whether small or big. Any progress is a step in the right direction. Your gift, whether small or big, has helped me make my classroom a place where children want to come and learn and THEY want to make progress. Every day, my students overcome their daily struggles, put everything else behind them and they work towards their goals. I am a proud teacher every day, and it is people like you who help us get to that point. We will continue working hard and meeting our goals.","fullyFundedDate":1758815030417,"projectUrl":"project/multi-sensory-learning/9416322/","projectTitle":"Multi-Sensory Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ginchereau","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10057323"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_90901","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":571,"numTeachers":48,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":34,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":45,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":56.9,"schoolId":90901,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Henry W Lawton Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Henry W Lawton Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/philadelphia-city-school-district/henry-w-lawton-elementary-school/90901"}
