Their faces lit up when they played with the various fidgets and decided on which ones are their favorites. Since the first day of school, I have had students come to my office to take breaks, check ins, and work on assignments. They always love how they get to pick a fidget of their choice, including all the new ones you all graciously funded! It truly helps them to stay focused and on task.\r\n\r\nThe standing desks have been a huge hit too! My students love how they are able to now stand and move around instead of having to sit at a desk during their long school days. They enjoy adjusting the height of the desks as needed and the choice to have movement in their day. In addition, the folders and binders will be so helpful for my students as they continue to work on their executive functioning skills throughout the school year.\r\n\r\nFinally, the Chat Chains game has been such a fun way for my students to work on their conversation skills with each other in small groups. The students love the questions on the cards and have been having some meaningful conversations this first week of school. \r\n\r\nThank you all again for your generosity to help my students access the various tools needed to help them be successful in their school days!","fullyFundedDate":1786642806675,"projectUrl":"project/help-these-busy-minds-to-learn/10468834/","projectTitle":"Help These Busy Minds to Learn!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Yuan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8012673_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y162&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1629898315685","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8012673"},{"teacherId":9003737,"projectId":9095931,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, my 6th grade students now have a larger and more diverse classroom library filled with books they are excited to read. Some students were especially excited to find books connected to their interests, while others discovered new genres and authors they had never explored before.\r\n\r\nWe are using the new books during independent reading, small-group activities, and daily reading time. One of my favorite moments has been watching students eagerly choose a book, find a comfortable spot in the classroom, and become immersed in their reading. Moving forward, we will continue exploring the new collection, sharing book recommendations, and using our reading experiences to build stronger comprehension, vocabulary, and a lifelong love of reading. Students are using the resources during morning check-ins, independent work, and moments when they need help managing stress or strong emotions. One activity that has stood out is our \"feelings check-in,\" where students identify how they are feeling and choose a strategy that can help them reset, such as breathing exercises, journaling, or taking a short quiet break. When the materials first arrived, many students were excited to explore them and immediately began asking questions about how they could use the different tools. It was wonderful to see students recognize that taking care of their mental health is an important part of being successful in school.\r\n\r\nThe resources have also helped create a classroom where students feel more comfortable talking about emotions and asking for support. Rather than seeing these conversations as something separate from learning, students are beginning to understand that managing stress, frustration, and anxiety can help them stay focused and engaged. Our next step is to continue practicing these strategies and have students reflect on which tools work best for them. It had provided such joy, support and encouragement to our students.\r\n\r\nWe recently opened a library in our school which has by itself greatly supported our students. The bookmarks allowed our students in my Reading Academy class check out independent reading books that they felt were truly theirs. They decorated their bookmarks and saw their ownership in them every time they opened to where they left off. It provided a great visual for students to see how far they got and how much they had left to read. We donated the extra bookmarks to the library for all students to enjoy as well as used them for our own version of Headbands (a game) that we turned into a PSSA ELA vocabulary prep review game! \r\n\r\nAdditionally students used the cleaning supplies, wipes and sprays, to support their peers in having a clean environment which helped keep everyone from getting sick and ultimately getting to stay in school for more education. Several students began looking through the books right away, recommending titles to their classmates and asking when they could start reading.\r\n\r\nWe are now using these books for independent reading, small-group discussions, and classroom projects.
