This is the first year that we have offered this class and it has been a roller coaster of a year! \r\n\r\nWe first started talking about branding in the fall. It was our second unit, and we spoke a lot about standing out, not being too specific but also avoiding being vague, and how creating a brand can be a way for you and your business to be represented without saying anything. We looked at examples of brands and how they have evolved over time and it was so fun having students rate the changes that were made to national brands over time. They then had a chance to put those plans into action and start drawing out ideas of their own. \r\n\r\nUnfortunately, that was where we stopped that particular unit, as I had no way of helping students beyond the design aspect. When a colleague mentioned around the holidays that they had a project funded, I was inspired to try to get something for my students to be able to bring their creations to life--and that is where your amazing gift comes in.\r\n\r\nDue to the scope and sequence of the course, I needed to wait until we had a break in the action for state testing to go back to the logo/branding unit and get students on the embroidery machine. When they found out that I got it a few months ago, they were super excited. I had to hide the box because they kept trying to get to it. When I told them it was finally time to break it out last week, they were thrilled. Besides going back to the branding, we also had to learn how to use the machine. As a crafty person, I thought I would be able to figure this out much more easily than I did--I was sad to learn my sewing skills would come in handy for threading it, but the actual use had a much larger learning curve. It was fun to work with the students, however, on figuring it out. Several of them took it upon themselves to watch YouTube videos and send them to me outside of school so that we could learn how to use this. The kids really loved using it the first time just to make their initials and see something go from screen to cloth. We have only had the chance for two girls to create a shirt with their design on it, but it has been a fun process that will help us close out the year on a really high note.\r\n\r\nYour gift has been invaluable to my students, not just in creating a brand and learning how that works, but in getting the opportunity to use a piece of equipment that most of them would never have heard about, let alone had the chance to use. I already have two young ladies, who are cousins, who plan on asking their grandmother to buy them one for Christmas this year because they have so greatly enjoyed creating with it. Another student has asked to make a couple of things that she can take with her to the flea market she works at with her mom on the weekends to sell some monogramed makeup bags. This has been an opportunity for them to think beyond what the original assignment was and think of ways that they can use the machine both for personal and professional uses.\r\n\r\nStudents are also thinking about next year. Students at our school wear uniforms, but students who are in student government get to wear special colors. Those students have already started planning for how they can elevate their shirts with some embroidery next year to stand out even more.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity. It has been a game changer for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1770849168920,"projectUrl":"project/embroidery-machine-for-entrepreneurial-b/9895943/","projectTitle":"Embroidery Machine for Entrepreneurial Branding","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Maugle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3523052_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1457795299743","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3523052"},{"teacherId":8924124,"projectId":9339930,"letterContent":"My students and I use the space every day for their SEL counseling block and independent session time.
