My students attend an urban alternative school. They are considered at risk meaning that they are at a greater risk than the average for dropping out of school. Most of my students are several grade levels behind where they need to be in both reading and math, a problem which can make it even easier for them to make the decision to drop out as they feel frustrated on a daily basis in the classroom. This year I started using Interactive Notebooks in my classroom, a way for students to not only interact with the information they are being taught but they also allow me to scaffold lessons to reach the diverse reading levels in my classroom.
