My students are enjoying the new headphones when it's time to do independent work in Lexia because it allows them to really focus on what they are reading and learning in their intervention program. My students were in awe of the new headphones since they were a huge improvement over what we were using for the last few years. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, they really appreciate the large chart paper for small cooperative learning assignments since it allows them to come together as a team and immediately see the results of their work. One of their favorite assignments to do is the mind mirror assignment where they put all of their ideas about a character onto the chart paper inside an outline of a character's head. \r\n\r\nFinally, the new art supplies and the ability to lamitate student work has allowed them to see the value of putting in the time and effort into everything they do! The futon/couch has been a huge incentive for students. They ask permission to use the couch and have to demonstrate literary readiness to stay there (awake, following along in the text, pausing to take annotations). The competitiveness over the couch has also encourage students to come early to class to be the first to get permission. The fidget/wiggle stools have been used on a case-by-case basis to help students stay in the room during a shared reading and focus while still moving their bodies. This year, my school has made a new policy that cell phones are to be \"Off and Away\" during instruction. From day one of the school year, students were reminded and coached to keep their phones out of sight. \r\n\r\nThis project, \"Park Those Phones,\" has provided a great jump start to the school year! Students enter my classroom, put their phones in one of the designated spots, and begin working. They are all engaged, practicing speaking to each other in English, and struggling to gain language the old-fashioned way. They are smiling, making new connections, and learning at an alarming rate. THANK YOU FOR THAT!\r\n\r\nThe content was accessible, and I was able to teach and reinforce important skills to my 9th grade class. As they added to their Book Journals, students: \r\n- annotated each scene for important events and changes to plot \r\n- identified, and then analyzed themes such as love, hatred, fate vs. free will, and youth \r\n- drafted discussion questions about each act and used them for turn and talk conversations\r\n- wrote thesis driven mini essay that argues if love was a blessing or a curse to the characters in the play. \r\n- and much more!\r\n\r\nThank you again for your donation to the project.
