These books are used for research reading for their performance tasks or to deepen their understanding of the module topic. These books are used in so many ways in our classrooms. Not only did the sharpies allow students' work to present in a professional fashion, but allowed my students to have a choice in what size they wanted their lines to be; fine and detailed or bold and prominent. Students in 8th grade used the sharpies to complete their zentangles which allowed for a therapeutic several weeks of creative doodles. Students in 3rd grade drew Modigliani portraits in pencil and finished their drawings off with the sharpie of their choosing before coloring their compositions with watercolors.
