My students greatly appreciate it and have been utilizing the care station appropriately and with respect. They were stunned by the amount that was donated. We took this opportunity to talk about how some people are less fortunate than others and how we should be kind and respectful to everyone because we never know what someone is going through. We also discussed the purpose of this self-care station and how it is not to be used for greed or selfishness. It is for the students that need it. Many of my students really appreciate having a snack during class while they work or a bottle of water after gym class in the afternoons. Students that don't have much food at home appreciate having something to eat during the day to keep them going. \r\n\r\nThe hygiene products are appreciated by the students because it allows them to gain access to the essentials without having to be embarrassed. They can just grab and go. Some of my students are sadly living in hotels or cars, so things like shampoo, conditioner, soaps, tooth brushes, toothpaste, and feminine products are considered a luxury to these students. Being able to provide these items makes me feel like I am making a difference in their lives and you should feel that way too! \r\n \r\nAs we start to prepare for state-mandated standardized testing, we greatly appreciate these gifts. The students feel good knowing there are complete strangers out there that care about them.
