The life skills students have been very busy since August making memories. It all began with making the entrance to our school welcoming. The students worked hard weeding, planting mums and raking mulch.Within a few weeks of school, we noticed we were accomplishing many activities. My students are very excited about learning and they want to remember each moment. For instance, we observed a butterfly emerging from the chrysalis and we named her, "Leah." We even said our goodbyes in a farewell ceremony. The students did various science experiments that were fun. We actually revived a half dead plant back to life with our secret ingredients. Can't tell, its a secret! We called it, "The Frankenstein Project." In our Life Skills English class we are learning to read labels. In math class, we are learning to measure ingredients. We combined the two and baked dog treats. They turned out great according to many of the teachers' pet recommendations. We also had the opportunity to visit a nursery and a pumpkin patch. Throughout all these exciting experiences, I was using my personal cellphone! I felt this was not the best way to teach students. I wanted them to be involved in every aspect of their learning experiences including capturing important events. Then the dream of an IPAD becomes much more than just taking pictures.Having a classroom IPAD, the students can be assigned various jobs such as the photographer, historian and even a graphic designer. They will love this type of responsibility and will be eager to begin. We will be able to create power points and videos as a resource tool for future students in the life skills classroom. Your gift will help the students be a part of an awesome learning process. As the saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words!"
