We rely heavily on visual learning, and before this replacement, our diagrams were becoming difficult to read. Your generosity ensures that:\r\n\r\nPrecision Matters: Students can once again print crisp, clear proofs and intricate geometric constructions where every line and intersection is perfectly visible.\r\n\r\nVisual Aids: We can continue producing high-resolution handouts for transformations, tessellations, and coordinate geometry without streaks or fading.\r\n\r\nClassroom Continuity: Our daily flow remains uninterrupted, allowing us to focus on the math rather than troubleshooting equipment.\r\n\r\nYour support helps us maintain a professional and effective learning environment here in Portland. Since we lost funding for the Makerspace in our school district, it took a hard hit on our science classes. We would take students to the Makerspace numerous times a year and felt a huge hole in our classes when we lost funding. Getting this portable Makerspace cart has allowed for us to continue doing projects even though the actual Makerspace is now closed. Every time we roll the cart into a science class, students get excited and ask what project we are going to work on. It gives the similar energy as when the TV/VCR cart would roll into class when I was a kid and we all knew we were going to watch Bill Nye the Science Guy. It's been very sweet seeing students get excited about learning. \r\n\r\nSo far, we have had the following classes use the cart this year for projects: biology, physics, forensics, and sports medicine. In biology, students made large scale models of cells, while in the freshman physics classes, students created a product that helped keep a potato safe from a second story fall. In forensics, students created \"arson houses\" and got to set them on fire outside to learn more about how different types of fuels can spread in a structure fire. \r\n\r\nMore and more science teachers continue to use this cart and there are lots of projects coming up to finish off the school year as well. Some of these projects include: building functional circuits, the \"make something awesome\" project where students build anything out of recycled materials to demonstrate a concept learned in class this year, and building habitat enhancement corridors. Getting this project funded by you really helped us establish this portable Makerspace cart as it took quite a bit of funds to get it going. In the coming years, we will be applying for smaller PTA grants at our school to help restock items as necessary. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for helping our students experience more joy and explore their curiosities within the classroom walls.","fullyFundedDate":1763559115878,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-portable-makerspace-project-c/9517501/","projectTitle":"Creating a Portable MakerSpace Project Cart","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Satoorian","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9474758"},{"teacherId":3828322,"projectId":10046335,"letterContent":"On behalf of our math classroom at Franklin High School, thank you for your incredible generosity. Early in the novel we focused our attention on getting acquainted with the novel's ten main characters. To ensure my students were engaging with the text in a deeper and more meaningful way, I broke each class (of which there are two) into ten groups and assigned each group a character to keep track of. These groups created character profiles for their assigned characters as a way to gain a fuller understanding of each character. The profiles were then made into posters, which were put up in the room so the whole class had access to each profile. This characterization was, for many of my Freshmen, their first foray into literary analysis. \r\n\r\nAlongside our lessons on character analysis, students learned about red herrings and foreshadowing, both of which they had ample time to practice identifying throughout the novel. With each section read students maintained a reading log where they were able to keep track of red herrings, foreshadowing, and any suspects and clues they may have discovered. \r\n\r\nAs we ventured further into the novel and characters started dying off, character groups were tasked with either conducting close readings of the moments leading up to their characters death looking for clues and suspects, or defending the innocence of their character. Each group would have an opportunity to present their characters death to the class in a sort of mock trial of sorts, and once all the evidence was presented to the class - and suspects had a chance to defend themselves - the rest of the class would manipulate the \"murder board\" so that we had a visual representation of the victims and their presumed killers. \r\n\r\nUnfortunately we are still finishing up the book - only two chapters and an epilogue to go! However, this novel set has allowed me to introduce countless lessons to my students. It has been interactive and fun, and I will absolutely be using this lesson again in the future. By weeks end we'll have finished reading and I will be teaching a lesson on culpability hierarchy, then have students play \"judge\" and rank each character's accused crimes in order of least to most severe and compare this to their fate in the novel. This will be part of a larger discussion about the theme of vigilante justice. We will conclude the unit, and the year, with an essay about the killer, Justice Wargrave, and whether his actions were in fact justice. \r\n\r\nAs a first year teacher I am so deeply grateful for the opportunity to explore a unit of my own making. While there is certainly room for improvement, I feel that overall it was thought provoking, engaging, and fun. I most heartily offer my thanks to all who helped fund this project.","fullyFundedDate":1738789126457,"projectUrl":"project/murder-mystery-literary-unit/9089636/","projectTitle":"Murder Mystery Literary Unit","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. B","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9722471_orig.jpg?crop=1125,1125,x0,y26&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738614811555","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9722471"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_88270","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1807,"numTeachers":88,"percentFrplEligible":42,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":50,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":19,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"20.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":80.8,"schoolId":88270,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Franklin High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Franklin High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oregon/portland-public-schools/franklin-high-school/88270"}
