Every few days we would make a big deal about opening one of our presents and the children would pass the package around and try to guess what was inside. They were absolutely overjoyed each time seeing something brand new they could use during their walk to read block. Their eyes lit up as they glanced toward each other and planned with their friends which center they were going to go to the following day. \r\nWith the increased rigor in Kindergarten, it is growing harder to find joyful learning moments for our littlest learners. Because of your generous gifts, my students literally ask \"when is walk to read?\" Much like they ask for recess or lunch. It is such a joy to see them enjoying learning to read. \r\nOne of the surprising moments I had with these materials was seeing them using the puppets to retell classic stories- three Billy goats gruff, little red riding hood, etc. I was reminding them to make sure they were telling the story instead of just rough housing. It dawned on me that the children playing had never heard the three Billy goats story before. They now love having me use the puppets to tell stories with my silly voices. \r\nI cannot thank you enough for this wonderful gift of joyful learning!","fullyFundedDate":1756657638796,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-reading/9635587/","projectTitle":"Hands-on Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rich","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8824263_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1667270837595","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8824263"},{"teacherId":1515986,"projectId":9557132,"letterContent":"When we found out that the cubbies were out of stock, I decided to use the funds to order other items that would help our classroom stay organized and run smoothly. These supplies may seem small, but they have made a big difference in our daily routines.\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited when the packages arrived. They loved seeing all the new supplies and quickly got to work organizing them. The headphone bags have helped keep our technology area neat, and the new pencils and grips have made writing time more comfortable and enjoyable. Having cleaning supplies on hand has also helped us take better care of our classroom and taught the students responsibility for keeping our space tidy.\r\n\r\nThese materials have truly improved the way our classroom operates each day. We've been using the Little Minds at Work toolkits during our daily \"Walk to Read\" intervention block. One of the most impactful moments was during a recent small group session, where students used tactile letter tiles to build and manipulate words. Seeing them physically move pieces to sound out and blend words reinforced the concept so much more than pencil and paper ever could. As Maria Montessori said, \"What the hand does, the mind remembers\"—and that's exactly what we're seeing in action!\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited for these materials! Many of them immediately began exploring the materials, asking what each tool was for and how they could use it. Their natural curiosity kicked in, and it was heartwarming to see how quickly they connected with the hands-on tools. For many of my first graders, these resources felt like a whole new way to learn—and that enthusiasm has carried into every reading session since.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building foundational reading skills through systematic phonics instruction, supported by the tactile tools. Students will use the materials to segment and blend words, practice sight words, and engage in decoding games that reinforce their learning. As we align our instruction with the Science of Reading, these tools are essential in helping me differentiate support and make reading feel exciting and accessible for every student. We're laying the groundwork for lifelong readers, and thanks to these resources, we're off to a strong start!","fullyFundedDate":1723673971649,"projectUrl":"project/what-the-hand-does-the-mind-remembers/8506639/","projectTitle":"What the Hand Does, the Mind Remembers!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Palmer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9077528_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721352680518","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/alexispalmer"},{"teacherId":9077528,"projectId":8624897,"letterContent":"This project has helped my students take responsibility for the small incidents that occur during instruction time. These materials have become an essential part of our daily instruction, and I've already seen so much growth in their foundational literacy skills. From identifying letter sounds to blending and segmenting words, these resources have helped make abstract reading concepts more concrete, engaging, and fun.\r\nWhen we first opened the boxes filled with these new materials, the classroom erupted in cheers. It was such a joyful moment! The students were beyond excited to explore the bright colors, interactive elements, and hands-on tools that were inside. Their faces lit up with excitement, and many of them couldn't wait to get started using the new items right away. That enthusiasm hasn't faded. In fact, it's grown stronger each day as the students continue to learn and build confidence in their reading abilities.\r\n\r\nThe resources have allowed us to bring reading instruction to life in a way that's developmentally appropriate and engaging for young learners. Whether it's through phonics games, letter tiles, decodable readers, or tactile letter cards, each item has supported our literacy goals in meaningful ways. The students are not only practicing sounds and letters, but also applying them in their reading and writing. They are beginning to see themselves as readers, which is incredibly powerful.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting things to witness is the way these materials have sparked curiosity and independent learning. During literacy centers and small group time, students are eager to dive into activities. They help each other, ask questions, and proudly show off the new words they've learned. It's clear that these tools are not just supporting their academic growth, they're also building confidence, motivation, and a true love of reading.\r\n\r\nWe will continue to use these materials throughout the school year to strengthen phonemic awareness, build decoding and fluency skills, and encourage a lifelong connection with literacy. They've become a cornerstone of our classroom learning environment, and I am so grateful to have access to them.\r\n\r\nThank you to everyone who made it possible for us to receive these resources. Your support has made a real difference in the lives of my students. You've helped create an environment where learning to read is joyful, meaningful, and successful for every child. I'm excited to see how much more progress they'll make in the coming months and I know that these tools will continue to play a key role in that growth.\r\n\r\nWe are so thankful for this opportunity and will make the most of every moment with these materials.
