My students have already used the book, \"The One and Only Ivan\". They really enjoyed reading this tale about a mall gorilla named Ivan and his friends Ruby, an elephant, and Bob, a dog. This book is easy to read and understand so even my low readers enjoyed reading.\r\n\r\nI use these books to teach reading and language skills. \"The One and Only Ivan\" included many of the different pieces of language that I teach in fourth grade. There is a lot of figurative language, which makes the text more vibrant. There is also dialogue and definitely comprehension. Each novel study has a packet that the students do to help with comprehension of a text. I read the books to the students as they follow along with their own copy. They can then use the book as a reference to finish the novel packet. It makes the students involved in their own learning and gives them time management and meeting a deadline skills.\r\n\r\nThe students enjoy learning the language skills from the novels instead of a textbook. The novels are more enjoyable to read and then use for learning. This makes learning more enjoyable. The students can relate to the characters in the novels, and the actions they take. Understanding the text is the first step to fully comprehension. These novels really help my students to understand the concepts and give them a love of reading. \r\n\r\nThank you again for funding my project. My students are already enjoying the books and I know that they will in the future.","fullyFundedDate":1776870860077,"projectUrl":"project/books-for-readers/10112558/","projectTitle":"Books for Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Evans","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10439313"},{"teacherId":8542027,"projectId":9317163,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our classroom now has a large table space and new shelving, and the impact has been incredible!
