They arrived after the semester began, and they are eagerly sitting on my shelf, waiting for the first students to read them (the first quarter book was already assigned before they arrived.)\r\n\r\nMy plan is to use these books, as one of the \"quarter\" books students are asked to read independently, with the goal of each freshman completing four books by the end of the year.\r\n\r\nI'm using these books to put \"non anglo\" books into the hands of my students - be it African-American, Native, Asian, Female, etc. \r\n\r\nOne book in particular, was checked out by a student - A Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds - it's already in the hands of a second student and a third is waiting to read it.\r\n\r\nI live in a very rural county. It's a mix of anglo students and native students. I am hoping by giving them new voices to learn from, this will expand their world.\r\n \r\nRight now I'm working to get them \"into\" reading.
