With 10–12 students who often prefer working together, modular tables allowed us to create collaborative group spaces while still supporting small-group center rotations. Lower seating options supported younger students with weaker core strength by promoting better posture and stability during instruction. Additionally, sensory-seeking students benefited from safe movement options that helped them regulate their bodies without disrupting learning. Overall, these improvements increased engagement, supported regulation, and allowed students to better focus on their academic and functional goals.","fullyFundedDate":1667666268378,"projectUrl":"project/wiggle-and-work/6971271/","projectTitle":"Wiggle and Work","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Moore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3532286_orig.jpg?crop=1874,1874,x59,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723408872082","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3532286"},{"teacherId":3532286,"projectId":8626017,"letterContent":"This project impacted my classroom by strengthening hands-on, individualized learning opportunities that supported my students' unique needs, abilities, and learning styles. These interactive materials promoted collaboration, critical thinking, and teamwork during group activities while also supporting individualized skill development. As a result, students were better able to retain information and transfer it from short-term to long-term memory. Sensory tools were used to promote regulation, improve focus, and increase participation, which ultimately helped my students become more available for learning throughout the school day. By creating a sensory-informed classroom environment, I was able to provide supports that felt natural and responsive rather than disruptive, allowing students to access tools in a way that matched their individual needs.\r\n\r\nMy students did not all learn in the same way, and they did not share the same sensory needs. Because of this, sensory supports were implemented flexibly, allowing students to use tools when they needed input, in the ways that worked best for their bodies and learning styles. Many of my students were sensory seekers who required additional input in order to maintain attention and engagement. The availability of sensory tools helped them regulate their bodies more effectively, which led to improved focus and increased participation in classroom activities.\r\n\r\nThe use of visual timers had a significant impact on reducing anxiety around transitions. Students were able to clearly see how much time remained before moving to a new activity, which helped them prepare emotionally and behaviorally for change. This predictability improved their ability to transition more smoothly throughout the day. In addition, recordable buttons provided essential communication support for students who were not yet able to express themselves verbally. These tools allowed them to participate in activities that would otherwise have been inaccessible, increasing their engagement and sense of inclusion.\r\n\r\nOverall, these sensory supports became an essential part of my special education curriculum. They not only improved regulation and communication but also directly supported student participation, engagement, and skill development, helping each student move closer toward their individual goals.","fullyFundedDate":1723326108606,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-success/8614782/","projectTitle":"Sensory Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Moore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3532286_orig.jpg?crop=1874,1874,x59,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723408872082","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3532286"},{"teacherId":3532286,"projectId":6604651,"letterContent":"This project directly addressed the significant social-emotional skill gaps my students experienced by providing explicit, structured instruction in recognizing emotions, understanding others' feelings, and making appropriate choices. The impact of COVID-19 had further delayed their social-emotional development, increasing the need for targeted support. With this curriculum and book series, students learned to identify their emotions, develop effective coping strategies, and build self-regulation skills. As a result, behavior challenges decreased and students demonstrated increased independence in navigating real-world social situations.","fullyFundedDate":1660051837435,"projectUrl":"project/a-spot-of-emotional-growth/6604651/","projectTitle":"A Spot of Emotional Growth","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Moore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3532286_orig.jpg?crop=1874,1874,x59,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723408872082","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3532286"},{"teacherId":9351884,"projectId":9909971,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our project, \"Indoor Recess to the NEX Level.\" Because of you, our classroom has been transformed into a place where every student can play, connect, and feel included, no matter their abilities.\r\nSince receiving the NEX, my students have been using it to build strong relationships with one another.
