Because of this project we now have more and more kids signing! With these materials we were able to help spread awareness for September which is Deaf Awareness Month. General education teachers all supported their classrooms as our little signing leaders taught them different signs. It's great to see the pledge every morning and the majority of kids are signing it as they say it. My one student who is Deaf has really taken control with the use of these materials. She has poured over the materials time and time again telling me what we should teach the class next! We have created an interactive hallway bulletin board and with your materials have been creating themed pages for kids and teachers to practice as well as take with them to class. \r\n One of the fun moments was when reading the famous Deaf people in history we taught the kids that without someone who was Deaf there would be no hand signals in baseball. This really made them stop and think. \r\n Thank you for helping empower our students to share their wonderful world of sign with all of the school. We cannot wait to see how this will expand in the future! Thank you so much again for all of your support and belief in our students.","fullyFundedDate":1787360175227,"projectUrl":"project/breaking-sound-barriers-with-american-si/10278430/","projectTitle":"Breaking Sound Barriers with American Sign Language","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Badder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6387681_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1555405898292","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-badder"},{"teacherId":6387681,"projectId":10275660,"letterContent":"To say our project has been successful is an understatement. Our school has a room with a few pillows and emotion charts to use when kids need to take a sensory break. While we still have access to this room I have come back to my classroom multiple times to find another teacher or administrator in my room with a child utilizing the materials to help them regulate. \r\n Having these materials available to kids to use when ever they need to has helped them take control over their own regulation. If the room is too loud, they go themselves to get the noise canceling headphones. A little out of sorts they go to the calm down corner to utilize the different manipulative to calm themselves- sand flowing picture has been a big hit! \r\n The favorite for the kids has been by far the spinning seat. This seat has been frequently used not only to help regulate, but also as a wonderful motivator. Students who before would become overwhelmed with a task now jump right in knowing they get a turn on the chair. \r\n I cannot thank you enough for your support for our classroom. It has been a gift that has just kept giving back to not only my caseload but many, many more kiddos.","fullyFundedDate":1783285599707,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-safe-at-school/10275660/","projectTitle":"Sensory Safe at School","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Badder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6387681_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1555405898292","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-badder"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_85504","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":354,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":59,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":73,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":76.9,"schoolId":85504,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Ottawa Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Ottawa Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/ottawa-glandorf-local-sch-dist/ottawa-elementary-school/85504"}
