Our classroom is filled with the WIGGLES! By providing our kiddos with materials that allow them to get their ADHD and sensory needs met they will be able to fully engage in the days lessons and activities. Having an outlet for gross motor within the classroom will be an invaluable resource. A great example of our need is our little one with extreme ADHD who loves being involved in EVERYTHING we do, which is AWESOME!!! Unfortunately his need for movement prohibits him from participating fully as he has to have our classroom aide take him down to the therapy room to borrow the physical therapists materials to meet his hyperactivity needs. This is a lose, lose for all involved; he misses out on class instruction, I am down an educator in the classroom, and his peers miss out on social interactions with him. By being able to provide him and his peers with a mode to get their wiggles out in the classroom they can continue to listen during story time, practice counting as they bounce, and for the first time for some kiddos sit long enough on a wiggle stool to finish looking at a book in it's entirety. This project will help all of my students. No longer will these little learners have to face the struggle of which of their needs should be met. Instead, they can happily be an active participant in our daily lessons along with having their energy and sensory needs met.
