We gave them an opportunity to guess. Some responses were a unicorn, a snake, a Lamborghini, the letter S, new shoes, etc.\r\nAs we opened the tape off the box, I explained how we had some very nice people buy us new science toys to make our science center more fun and exciting! The kids couldn't believe it and asked if the people all knew Santa Clause. They also said we should put a heart on our Kindness Tree, for everyone who donated and did a kindness act. So we added 5 hearts to our kindness tree, one being an extra large heart to thank Horace Mann Financial Group for their very large contribution. The students were so excited and thankful. \r\n\r\nThis week we decided to introduce the mammals science kit first. As we described everything in the Mammals kit, we discussed how various animals are mammals, including the students, as humans. We explained and charted what all makes you a mammal. (The students then connected their spine to the spine on a book). We chose the mammals kit first because we wanted to explain how cats are mammals. We plan to participate in Read Across America the first week of March and celebrate Dr. Seuss' The Cat In The Hat. We wanted to be able to connect how cats are mammals and integrate it with The Cat and the Hat, as being a mammal.\r\n\r\nOur next steps for this science project and our preschoolers is to try and get a new science cart or table to display the materials. Our overall goal of both projects is to make the students interested in life, earth, and physical sciences and want them to explore and discover, within our science center. (They currently were not going into the science center). We want to introduce and implement the science materials, while connecting them to our curriculum study topics and then displaying them in the science center. We still need a science cart or table that is more conducive to their investigations and exploration of life, earth, and physical sciences. We plan to create a new science project asking for a preschool science cart or table. We appreciate everyone's support! Thank you all very much!!! Another student replied \"that sure was nice, we need to put a heart on our kindness tree for them\".\r\nFunding this project has given our students an opportunity to predict/engineer a house, bridge and or furniture and problem solve ways to do so. It has also given them interest in story telling and acting out traditional fairy tales, as well as creating their own story or version. \r\nAs we focus on each fairy tale, the materials are placed in our centers for the students to use.
