The communication buttons allow students to make choices, answer questions, participate in classroom routines, and express their needs in a more independent way.\r\n\r\nThe Velcro and picture supports have also helped us adapt books to make reading more interactive and accessible. Students are able to match pictures, identify characters and objects, answer comprehension questions, and demonstrate their understanding of stories in ways that are meaningful to them. Having these visual supports helps make books less overwhelming and gives students a way to actively participate in literacy activities.\r\n\r\nThe low-tech communication-to-go binders have been especially helpful because they allow students to have communication supports available beyond the classroom.
