It has allowed me to create nonsense (make-believe) words such as vim, sav, gef, lim, zot, and zut, giving students meaningful practice in decoding and blending individual letter sounds. This has strengthened their phonics skills and built their confidence as readers.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the cardstock has supported learning beyond reading. An additional project we are working on is storytelling and using the legos to design sets to show a part of different stories that they are reading about. \r\n\r\nWhen I showed the students all the LEGOs they were really excited and began cheering and screaming with excitement. I have never seen so many students actively engaged in my lessons and to be so complimentary and cooperative with their fellow classmates. \r\n\r\nOur next steps are to integrate more storytelling elements along with LEGOs and add in a technology piece by having them create stop motion videos retelling a story or at least part of the story.
