Not because someone told them what to see, but because they discovered it themselves!\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my students now have opportunities to become scientists, engineers, investigators, builders, and problem-solvers. And they are doing exactly that!\r\n\r\nFrom younger students carefully examining the tiny details of leaves, rocks, and everyday objects with magnifying glasses to older students exploring the microscopic world, these materials are helping transform ordinary lessons into extraordinary moments of discovery.\r\n\r\nAnd then there is the engineering! With our Erector sets and wooden car kits, students are learning that building something is only the beginning. They design, test, take things apart, make adjustments, and try again. Sometimes their creations work beautifully. Sometimes they fall apart spectacularly! But that is where some of the most meaningful learning happens.\r\n\r\nWhat has excited me most is watching students realize that there isn't always one correct answer or one perfect design. Their ideas matter. Their questions matter. And sometimes, the most important discovery comes from something that didn't work the first time.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to take these investigations even further. Students will explore force, motion, friction, and engineering through design challenges, while our young scientists will move from simple observations to deeper investigations of the natural world. As students grow, so will the complexity of their questions and the challenges they tackle.\r\n\r\nAfter nearly two decades in education, I remain convinced that some of the most powerful learning moments begin with three simple words: \"Wait! Look at this!\"\r\n\r\nThat is what your generosity has helped bring into my classroom. Not simply supplies, but opportunities for curiosity, discovery, imagination, and the confidence to ask questions and search for answers.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me create a classroom where students don't just learn about science and engineering. They get to BE scientists and engineers!","fullyFundedDate":1787256551735,"projectUrl":"project/stem-and-hands-on-learning-up-close/10398343/","projectTitle":"STEM and Hands-On Learning Up Close","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Vargas-Ewing","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1761748_orig.jpg?crop=763,763,x0,y73&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1784747776288","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jamesewing"},{"teacherId":9914191,"projectId":9425807,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our classroom has been able to be a clean, organized, and welcoming learning space where my third graders can truly thrive. The new supplies (tissues, hand sanitizer, cleaning wipes, erasers, and dry erase markers) are used every single day. While they may seem like small items, they play a powerful role in keeping our classroom running smoothly and our focus where it belongs: on learning.\r\n\r\nWe immediately put the materials to use during our morning launch routines. Each day, students begin with a math warm-up on their individual whiteboards. Before receiving these new dry erase markers and erasers, we often had to pause lessons to search for working supplies or make do with dried-out markers. Now, every student can quickly grab a fresh marker, solve problems confidently, erase with ease, and move into partner discussions without interruption. That smooth transition has made a noticeable difference in our instructional time and student engagement.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped us start strong and stay focused. You didn't just provide supplies — you helped create a safe, structured, and inviting environment where students feel ready and excited to learn each day. Thank you for investing in my curious, caring, and hardworking third graders. Your generosity is felt in every smooth transition, every focused lesson, and every confident smile.","fullyFundedDate":1760385813239,"projectUrl":"project/setting-the-stage-for-success/9425807/","projectTitle":"Setting the Stage for Success!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Baker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9914191_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750459475549","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-cbaker"},{"teacherId":9772788,"projectId":9476990,"letterContent":"Your generosity has made a meaningful difference in our Title I classroom, creating an environment where students feel supported, valued, and excited to learn. Because of your kindness, our classroom is now equipped with essential tools that many students would not otherwise have access to. Simple items like pencils ensure every student is prepared and confident to participate each day, removing barriers to learning and allowing students to focus on growing academically.\r\n\r\nThe headphones and flexible seating options have transformed the way students engage with lessons. Headphones give students the opportunity to learn at their own pace, whether they are listening to instructional videos, practicing math skills, or receiving targeted support. Flexible seating and rolling desks allow students to choose learning spaces that best meet their needs, helping them stay focused, comfortable, and motivated while encouraging collaboration and independence.\r\n\r\nWe are incredibly thankful for every donation—each item has helped create a classroom where students feel empowered, engaged, and ready to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1760724446555,"projectUrl":"project/geek-chic-supply-list/9476990/","projectTitle":"Geek Chic Supply List","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dunbar","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9772788_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726970064776","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9772788"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_102526","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":565,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":49,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":37,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.7,"schoolId":102526,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Walnut Creek Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Walnut Creek Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/wake-county-public-school-system/walnut-creek-elementary/102526"}
